Job Summary
Minnesota North College-Itasca Campus is seeking to fill the permanent, part-time (.80 FTE) position of Bookstore and Café Shop Assistant (Customer Service Specialist, Int.).
The Bookstore and Café Shop Assistant oversees the coordination of the Itasca Campus Retail store and coffee shop, including managing the Point of Sale system, serving customers, tracking inventory, displaying products, and preparing food and beverages. This position will also supervise assigned student workers.
This position is part-time/80% FTE, which is 32 hours per week.
Duties Include:
1. Oversee the Itasca Campus Store.
- Provide customer service to students, faculty, staff, and the community for all store purchases.
- Operate and maintain the Missouri Book Store (MBS) system to ensure all transactions are complete and accurate.
- Handle the cashier functions including receiving and verifying payments, cash drawer reporting and close out, reconciling receipts and preparing deposit tickets.
- Manage retail sales floor by stocking inventory, product display and pricing while maintaining full compliance with Federal, State and industry requirements and/or practices.
- Recruit, train and manage student worker staffing.
- Participate as part of the Minnesota North College’s Store Team.
- Assist in the development and implementation of campus specific and college specific store goals, policies, and procedures.
- As assigned, perform campus and college-wide bookstore functions including, but not limited to, textbook adoptions, book orders, general merchandise selection/ordering, clothing merchandise selection/ordering, fulfillment center orders, etc.
2. Assist with the Itasca Coffee Shop.
- Provide customer service to students, faculty, staff, and the community for all store purchases.
- Operate the cash register and prepare food and beverages under the direction of the Cook Coordinator.
- Recruit, train and manage student worker staffing.
- Keep storage space, coolers and freezer in order.
- Monitor students on meal plans to ensure proper use of ID cards.
- Perform cleaning to ensure that all health standards are met.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by Cook Coordinator.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in retail and/or food services operations.
- Ability to operate a cash register.
- English (oral and written) communication skills sufficient to communicate appropriately with students, faculty/staff and other customers.
- Excellent skill in customer service sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone and through email and other written correspondence.
- Ability to manage sufficiently large volume of work while maintaining accuracy.
- Commitment to diversity as well as a demonstrated ability to work successfully with persons of diverse backgrounds including sensitivity to their needs and concerns.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to perform cleaning tasks including the knowledge of cleaning supplies and procedures.
- Certified in food safety or food service.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs or greater.
- Knowledge of inventory management.
Additional Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
