The role:
We are recruiting for a bridge hydraulic designer to join our team in Salem! In this role, you will perform technical analysis and support that includes gathering data, reviewing plans, using geographic information systems (GIS) and other software to contribute data to the bridge scour database. You will complete computer modeling assignments and process engineering data to support our section’s scour program. Apply today!
This is a limited duration appointment that is expected to end on or before two years from date of hire. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service. This position has the potential to become permanent.

A day in the life:
-
Conduct scour calculations and evaluations to support the establishment of scour codes for all bridges.

Provide analysis used to develop bridge scour plans of action.
-
Contribute to data in the bridge scour database.
-
Support scour evaluations for local agency bridges.
-
Produce reports used to evaluate and determine the status of the bridge scour program.
-
Review bridge scour work products to ensure accuracy and quality, under the supervision of the senior bridge hydraulics engineer.

Work with bridge engineering data and produce reports.
-
Work with the bridge inventory coordinator to upload data into the Oregon Bridge Inventory databases.
-
Assist in coordinating, developing and maintaining Bridge Reporting System data and metadata.
-
Work in an office environment – outdoor work is required more than 30% of the time.
-
Field work may involve accompanying staff on bridge inspections which may involve working on or around heights, around and above bodies of water, confined spaces, high traffic volumes and noise in all weather conditions.

May be required to lift up to 30 pounds.

What we need:
Completion of and passing score on the fundamentals of engineering (FE) exam and one year of experience applying professional engineering theory, principles and methods.
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Experience performing less complex bridge hydraulic analyses using standard computer programs.
