Job Description: Broadband Maintenance Technician Full Time Position M-F 8:00am – 5:00pm and On-Call

Reports To: Supervisor

Department: Maintenance

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Location: Isle,MN, Mille Lacs Lake Area

Job Summary

This Position is primarily responsible to maintain and repair the HFC plant from headend to the tap including the optical node, trunk, and feeder portions of the network. Perform trouble shooting and repair of HFC distribution system and fiber optic systems to restore system design forward and return rf levels and performance measurements including MER, and BER from node to subscriber tap.

Primary Job Functions

  • Perform maintenance and repair on our HFC network following company procedures to insure consistently high quality of service. This includes balancing forward and return signals at the fiber node, trunk, and feeder portions of the network.
  • Trouble shooting and repair of HFC and fiber plant from customer tap to headend / hub.
  • Emergency restoration of fiber and HFC plant due to cuts or failures. Requires ability to splice both coax and fiber cable.
  • Perform repair and routine maintenance of HFC power supplies.
  • Ability to read and interpert system design maps
  • Profecient with Signal Analysis Meters, TDR, UG Locator, OTDR, Optical Light Meter, RF Leakage Detector, and VOM.
  • Working independently and maintaining good organization.
  • Record and document all required information.
  • Perform on-call duties as required.
  • Locate and mark underground facilities as required.
  • Communicating effectively both orally and written.

Experience, and Education:

  • HS Diploma/G.E.D required
  • 6 Months as an HFC maintenance technician, or minimum 1 year as field technician installing and troublshooting broadband.
  • On the job training available to advance HFC / Fiber network skills
  • Maintain a current valid driver’s license and good driving record. No DUI’s within the last 5 yrs.

Technical Skills

  • Good grasp of HFC RF & basic electronics.
  • Ability to read system maps.
  • Able to operate Signal Analysis Meter, TDR, VOM, and UG Locator.
  • Able to operate Optical Light Meter, OTDR, and Fusion Splicer.
  • Knowledge of OSHA rules in order to perform job safely.
  • Knowledge customer premise equipment setup and operation.
