Job in a Nutshell:
The Bulk Material Handler is responsible for the daily setup and product preparation for manual packaging at the Natural Grocers Distribution Center. The Material Handler position is a fast paced and physically demanding position and is critical to the success of the manual packaging operation. This position is responsible for maintaining GMP’s, housekeeping, and applicable food safety documentation.
Responsibilities:Main Ingredients:
- Verify daily schedule with production lead
- Assist with staging packaging materials and other supplies for the shift
- Ensure accuracy and quantity of staged raw material prior to opening containers
- Inspect raw material during the preparation process and report quality concerns to QA
- Break up and distribute raw material to baggers in a sanitary and efficient manner
- Maintain flow of product to bagging stations throughout each production run
- Maintain complete and accurate records of raw materials entering production
- Assist with bagging product as time allows
- Maintain the segregation of allergen, non-allergen, organic and non-organic products
- Lead quick and efficient changeovers to minimize down time
- Complete necessary documentation for changeovers, cleaning, and product specs
- Clean and sweep work area regularly to maintain a sanitary environment
- Follow all SSOP’s and HACCP standards.
- Perform all tasks in a manner that promotes safety

A Recipe for Success:
- Previous experience in food manufacturing environment preferred
- High School diploma or equivalent education is required
- Ability to read, write and speak English clearly and concisely
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in food production preferred
- Must become familiar with allergen categories and required segregation for allergens and organic products
- Good attention to detail; communication, accuracy and thoroughness a must
- Exposure to 5s and Lean manufacturing methodologies a plus
- Ability to work with others in a fast-paced team environment
- Must be reliable and on time every day
- Able to work in seasonally warm or cool environment

Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs.; repetitive lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to carry up to 50 lbs.
- Requires the use of both arms and both hands with full range of motion.
- Must be able to bend at the waist and knees, twist, push and pull on occasional basis
- Must be able to kneel, squat, and climb as needed
- Must be able to climb stairs
- Must be able to reach overhead and away from the body
- Must be able to stand for at least 90% of the time
- Must be able to walk for at least 90% of the time
