POSITION SUMMARY: Ensures the health, safety and welfare of the children, staff and volunteers
during bus transportation to and from the center and on field trips. Supports the extension of classroom learning environments on the bus. Ensures quality building maintenance services to the children, families, staff and community members who utilize the school facilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Communicates in a positive manner with staff, parents and children.
2.Drives a bus and possibly other vehicles.
3.Ensures children are safely transported on the bus by checking seat belts, ensuring car seats are appropriately installed and monitor that children stay seated.
4.Checks the bus to make sure all children have exited following each route.
5.Ensures that children are released only to a parent or designated person, in accordance with release policy.
6.Assist the Bus Monitors in maintaining a positive social environment that supports the extension of classroom learning environments on the bus.
7.The person in this position must have the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
8.Protects the safety of children by implementing active supervision techniques to ensure no child is left alone or unsupervised at any time.
9.Follows all state, federal and corporate regulations and rules including, but not limited to, limiting the number of riders to the legal capacity of the vehicle, ensuring an appropriate staff/child ratio on the vehicle and ensuring children are in car seats.
10.Assists in establishing and maintaining bus routes, deviating only in emergency situations.
11.Maintains accurate vehicle attendance records and other required paperwork.
12.Ensures emergency supplies, safety and other equipment are maintained and properly stored and mounted.
13.Ensures the bus is operating correctly including, but not limited to, checking the vehicle communication system, conducting pre-and post-trip inspections and following vehicle maintenance schedules.
14.Bus Drivers escort children to/from their classroom and convey any messages between parents and theteacher, as well as any incidents on the bus.
15.Bus Drivers need to collaborate with the Bus Monitor and classroom staff to teach children safe ridingpractices and safety procedures on and off the bus. Conducts regular bus evacuation drills.
16.Cleans the interior and exterior of vehicles.
17.Maintains indoor and outdoor facilities, grounds, landscapes, and turf in a manner that provides a safe andcomfortable environment which is conducive to a positive learning experience.
18.Performs general maintenance tasks as needed such as floor care, painting, and cleaning equipment.
19.Performs outside work as needed such as lawn maintenance, shoveling snow and playgroundmaintenance.
20.Performs minor construction and repairs.
21.Picks-up and unloads supplies.
22.Participates in staff meetings, committees and training sessions.
23.Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
24.Works in cooperation with supervisor to develop and document progress on professional development plan. Actively engages in professional development activities to increase qualifications in accordance with Corporation's Core Values.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no direct supervisory duties but is expected to train or explain work procedures to others.
ROLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • No formal education is required but must be able to follow standard practices and instructions, keep routine records and communicate with staff, parents and children.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. is recommended.
  • Valid CDL license is required, including ability to pass CDL physical.
  • Must have seven years of driving experience.
  • Prior experience driving a bus is preferred.
  • Clean driving record
  • Must be able to get certification for CPR and First Aid after hire and recertify as required.

climbing.
  • Riding in a bus for prolong periods of time with noise and vibration.
  • Frequent exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • Exposure to blood, other bodily fluids, cleaning chemicals and dirt.
Background Checks:
  • All employees are subject to both a pre-hire and an annual background check. Specific rules by Line of Business will indicate whether a state or federal fingerprint background check (or both) is required and the frequency. A fingerprint background check may suffice for a regular background check. Additional background checks may be required such as the ChildAbuse and Neglect State Registry, and the Sex Offender Registry.
Positions that Require Driving (as designated by supervisor)
  • Telamon Corporation/Transition Resources employees that are required to drive a personalvehicle for work-related duties are to meet the auto insurance liability requirement. Theminimum limits required are $100,000 each person bodily injury, $300,000 each accidentbodily injury and $50,000 property damage.
The insurance liability requirement covers use of an employee's personal vehicle.
  • Telamon Corporation/Transition Resources employees that drive a company-owned/rentalvehicle must maintain a satisfactory annual motor vehicle record check.
  • Must have own transportation, a valid driver's license, and vehicle insurance.
