Hybrid - Work will be performed at the home, and DODD location (Rhodes Office Tower 18th floor, 30 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio).

The Business Analyst (BA) at DODD will provide program technical assistance to state and contracted information technology professionals during one, multiple or all phases of assigned project(s). BA’s gather information from various sources (business, technical teams, and legacy artifacts) during the inception (i.e., development of the scope and outline of the general requirements) of a project. The BA will need excellent analytical, facilitation, verbal, and written communication skills to fulfill this role. BA’s need to have a unique, inquisitive perspective that will ask/investigate/call out opportunities and issues to improve quality and allow development teams to produce applications users want to use instead of having to use. Business Analysts should help in directing the organization to see the big picture and envision possible solutions.

DODD is an AGILE IT shop and has adopted the Scrum methodology. The BA must be conversant with the Azure DevOps Platform, JIRA or equivalent tools to organize and track work. The BA activities will include developing and refining user stories to meet the Definition of Ready (DoR). This position requires a strong understanding and experience refining product backlogs and experience organizing and tracking work items in Epics, Features, User Stories, Bugs, and Issues and creating Dashboards. The BA will develop supporting artifacts such as but not limited to Project Vision Document, Journey Maps, Business Workflows, Enterprise Analysis, develop templates etc., based on interviews with the technical team, business team and subject matter experts. They will assist the product owner to write requirements, define acceptance criteria and manage the state of user stories throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC)/ Project lifecycle. The BA may use a variety of tools including MS Excel, MS Word VISIO, Lucid Chart, Balsamiq, and PowerPoint to develop mock-ups and artifacts to support the development effort.

The BA will work closely with the development team which is made up of multiple roles. In the process they need to address questions discovered during the development phase, validate the code developed matches requirements and acceptance criteria defined in user stories. The BA may need to assist with coordinating or creating test plans for business users and assist with test case creation based on their perspective and understanding of responsible business processes. The BA may need to help facilitate engagements between the product owner/business stakeholders and development team members at any time during the project life cycle.

The BA will work closely with the Quality Assurance team to support testing processes in pre-production environments. To provide this support, the BA should be conversant with DODD QA standards, applying them to assist in the development of test cases. They need to ensure that the test cases provide adequate code coverage of user stories and include mapping user tests to traceability matrices to provide adequate coverage. During release cycles the BA will work closely with the DODD Release Manager to support the releases, working as a liaison to technical resources and serving as the subject matter expert on the underlying business rules for the system/application in case there is a need during the validation of a release.

Mandatory

  • 4-5 years’ experience working in an AGILE development environment using Azure DevOps platform or equivalent tools. Able to support program and project management staff with story lifecycle management which includes- using the User Story work item for Creating and Managing of requirements, adding artifacts obtained from the business. Be able to develop supporting artifacts based on interviews with the technical and business team, writing acceptance criteria, assisting with the development of acceptance criteria and migration of user stories from committed to ready for test processes.
  • 4-5 years demonstrated ability to develop artifacts using tools such as MS PowerPoint; and MS Excel, MS word, Visio, Lucid Chart or other diagramming software.
  • 4-5 years’ experience functioning as a BA on a large-scale enterprise level application.
  • Good communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse group composed of various lines of business and technical staff.

Preferred

  • Certified Scrum Master.
  • Certified Product Owner SAFe Certified or worked at an organization implementing SAFe.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps or Equivalent, and ability to adapt to new technologies.
