JOB SUMMARY: Business Office Director negotiates external agency contracts. Assists Controller in reviewing and determining accounts for placement with external collection agencies. Oversees on-line data processing system. Oversees the performance of Patient Account Representatives including performance appraisals, counseling, disciplining, and recommending termination. Oversees employees and environment to ensure compliance with departmental and hospital safety policies and procedures. Performs, on a daily basis, the billing, follow-up and collection efforts necessary to relieve patient accounts from a collectible status. Assists admitting personnel in the areas of insurance verification. Assists patient/families with financial arrangements. Takes an active role in attaining and maintaining AR days of 72 – 75. Generates computer reports on a daily basis. Reviews the daily cash deposit for accuracy and posts cash to patient account files and reviews postings done by the Patient Account Representatives. Assists Utilization Review in monitoring patient benefits.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Education: BS in Finance, Management, or General Business preferred
Experience: Three to five years experience in hospital admitting, billing and collections.
Licensure/Certification: None required
Knowledge: Good communication and organization skills. Ability to type; knowledge of billing forms (i.e., UB-82, 1500); billing procedures and regulations for Medicare, Public Aid, Managed Care, etc.; detail oriented; good writing skills.
Supervision Received: CFO
Supervision Exercised: Patient Account Representatives
Working Conditions: General hospital environment
Physical Requirements: Sedentary work with occasional lifting required. Important physical capabilities: bending, reaching fingering, standing, listening, verbal skills, pushing, walking. Must be able to use computer, printer, typewriter, office supplies and repetitive typing/keying.
