Position summary

The Buyer role reports to the Supply Chain Manager and is responsible for procuring goods from a portfolio of suppliers with the goal of optimizing inventory, without sacrificing service, by ensuring the right product is maintained at the right site at the right time in the right volumes.


Essential tasks of the position

  • Creates and issues purchase orders in order to fulfill sales orders and forecast while also meeting stocking requirements.
  • Ensures accuracy of purchase order delivery dates through communication and follow up with assigned suppliers.
  • Works to proactively resolve potential service disruptions and effectively communicates to Customer Service Team as needed.
  • Maintains essential master data for assigned products.
  • Develops a strong relationship with assigned supplier base as well as with internal groups including but not limited to Customer Service, Demand Planning, Business Management, and Sales.
  • Performs annual cycle counts as well as ad hoc reconciliation of inventory as issues arise.
  • Process supplier returns as needed.
  • Works with Demand Planning to optimize supply chain set up including review of hub spoke relationship, order cycles, minimum order qty’s, etc.
  • Meets the goals for service and inventory for assigned supplier base.
  • Continuously identifies process improvement opportunities and drives them through implementation.
  • Manages Cases per Responsibility Matrix.
  • Works independently and collaborates with others as needed. Contributes to complex projects as needed.

Activities of the position affect quality including quality objectives. Responsibilities and authorities include where appropriate:

  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product, process, or quality system, up to and including when necessary, stopping production to correct quality problems.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process, and quality system.
  • Document problems, steps taken for resolution and preventative action in CRM software and notify all parties required.
  • Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Verify the implementation of solutions in areas under your control.
  • Control further processing, delivery, or installation of nonconforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • Perform duties and tasks as prescribed in company policies, procedures, and work instructions.
