Overview:
Barnes & Noble College is seeking a creative, driven, adaptable, and customer-focused team member to work as a Buyer at our Harvard Coop Store. The Buyer will work in coordination with the LidsU Cluster Buyer and Planner to plan, manage, and select goods to be sold at the Harvard Coop. This position plays an integral part of deciding what gets sold at the Harvard Coop inclusive of style, design, quantities of good ordered and compliance to licensing requirements.
Responsibilities:
Expectations:
- Forge and maintain relationship with LidsU to ensure that the Harvard Coop has the right product selection at the right time with the right quantities.
- Fully manage the licensing process.
- Have input on all consumer options according to quality and design to determine the best choices.
- Create reports on sales performance and deliver weekly to GM and Regional Director.
- Communicate with store team about sales performance.
- Be available to guide store team regarding product needs.
- Participate in daily “Take 5’s” and weekly management meetings.
- Partner with Coop president and communicate on a regular basis, minimally once a month.
- Communicate on a daily basis with the LidsU Cluster Buyer to ensure all orders are placed and shipped as planned.
- Coordinate with key vendor partners regular store visits to help with the merchandising of the selling floor.
- Schedule and coordinate style outs with key vendors two times a year in conjunction with the LidsU Cluster Buyer
Physical Demands:
- Frequent movement within the store to access various departments, areas, and/or products.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting.
- Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.

- 2+ years’ prior buying and/or merchandising experience at the assistant or associate level.
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products that meet their needs.
- Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills required.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
