JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Camp Ranger 1: Camp Molly Lauman (Scioto County)

REPORTS TO: Properties Director

POSITION SUMMARY: Maintain and improve Girl Scout property and equipment in accordance with Council requirements and applicable safety, health, and accreditation standards, in order to serve the program needs of Girl Scouts and other site users.

ACCOUNTABILITIES: Maintain properties in accordance all regulatory standards, such as the EPA, OSHA, state and local health codes. Understand applicable standards imposed by both Girl Scouts of the USA and the American Camping Association. Develop and carry out sound conservation practices.

Must maintain the cleanliness, structural integrity and visual quality of all buildings, program site features and landscaping. Technical skills beyond the scope of expertise, such as complex plumbing, electrical or HVAC work, may be completed by others.

Maintain or construct computerized databases for inventory control and property management and provide input on both short- and long-term building projects or other site improvements including capital budget projects. Understand key business aspects of camp.
Working with Property Director, manage financial assets of camp responsibly.

Maintain good public relations with Girl Scout volunteers, vendors, other members of the public and fellow Council employees. Ensures other Council staff is correctly utilizing equipment and buildings. Work with other Rangers in order to help maintain other council property, as needed. Collaboratively work with other Girl Scout staff in delivering support for Council programs and events held on premises.

Ensure site security by securing buildings and property, working with law enforcement personnel, and having monitoring procedures in place.

Ability to operate a computer in order to communicate via email and perform inventory and update property databases as they are constructed.

Works in conjunction with the head ranger on coordinating building projects as well as capital budget projects.

Assists with the needs of assigned Service Center(s).

Perform other duties as assigned by the Properties Director.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge and skills in trades (such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, mechanical ability) for general maintenance of buildings, grounds, and machinery.

Ability to safely operate power equipment, tractors, vehicles, mowers and various other tools and equipment.

Minimum of five years of previous employment as a camp ranger, or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Daily access to dependable transportation, valid driver’s license and insurance required.

Ability to occasionally work a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.

Must be a registered member of GSUSA.

COGNITIVE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents. Succinct communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate with others in a pleasant and helpful manner.
Ability to respond effectively to inquiries and complaints.

Ability to comprehend and apply basic math skills and understand formulas, graphs, charts and maps.

Ability to think logically in order to solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete issues.

The employee is occasionally required to: sit at a computer for up to 2 hours; use the hand(s) to finger, handle or feel; sit in staff meetings for up to 4 hours.

The employee is frequently required to: stand, walk, bend, climb, walk rough terrain, and reach with arms and hands; lift or move up to 75lbs; maintain close, distance and peripheral vision, as well as focus.

The employee will occasionally be required to work in very tight, confined spaces, or under extremes of either hot or cool temperatures.
