Summary/Objective

Cardinal Point Captains, Inc. (CPC) is seeking an experienced and qualified individual to serve as Captain or Mate for vessel support services to Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD), Point Mugu, Pacific Targets and Marine Operations (PTMO) division at Naval Base Ventura County in Port Hueneme, CA. This is a Part-Time, On-Call position for surge crew and requires the ability to work in at-sea and/or dockside environments, sometimes at remote locations with occasional over-night assignments. The position operates support and target vessels in support of PTMO requirements. Surge crew requirements fluctuate according to PTMO scheduling, therefore short notice fulfillment of vessel crew can be anticipated. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Act as Mate on 65’ and below and occasionally as Captain on vessels of greater than 65’ depending on mission and qualifications.
  • Navigation, operating, overseeing, and/or assisting in in the operations of assigned vessels.
  • Performing regular vessel maintenance, preventative maintenance, and light repairs such as boat checks, fueling, vessel logs, fluid changes, cleaning and more.
  • Conducting regular safety drills and training for crew member and junior operators.
  • Document vessel-related activities, including information pertaining to safety, training, operations and the safe navigation of the vessel in the Ship’s Log and/or the digital Vessel Information Management System (VIMS).
  • Properly mobilize the vessel before each cruise, including cleaning and stocking provisions
  • Maintain the safety and well being of the crew and passengers, as well as timely execution of the assigned mission.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Current United States Coast Guard (USCG) 100-ton or greater Master license.
  • Active Security Clearance or have had one within the last 7 years.
  • Ability to pass background check and physical due to the hazardous at-sea working environment.
  • Able to stand for a minimum of 6 hours on wet and moving surfaces in open console vessels with limited protection from wind and seas.
  • Possess a minimum of three years’ experience with U.S. Navy or USCG small boats within the last ten years.
  • Experience in military small craft operations and procedures, specifically high speed rough water operations and vessel at-sea transfer.
  • Working knowledge of FCC marine radio licensing requirements and operations procedures, including marine distress communications.
  • Current first Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
