Position Summary
The Career Counselor / First Destination Assistant is part of the Career Services team, housed in the Division of Student Success. This highly visible, student facing position will serve as the initial point of contact for students through individual career appointments, facilitating class presentations, and conducting proactive outreach across campus. Additionally, this position will play a role in conducting the data collection for the annual First Destination Survey and aiding in efforts leading to student success. The UW-River Falls Career Services department provides comprehensive support for all students and alumni.

Responsibilities
Provides comprehensive career consulting services by facilitating individual appointments on all appointment types including resume, cover letter, interview preparation, mock interviews, researching majors and careers, career assessments, job and internship searching, and more. 50%

Serves as the main point of contact for undeclared students by administering/interpreting career assessments. This may include providing career exploration presentations to students in and out of the classroom and assisting at new student registration. 15%

Proactively seeks outreach opportunities to engage with students; assists with the creation/coordination of career programming; collaborates with internal and external partners to benefit student success, coordinates, develops and facilitates classroom and student organization presentations and engages on university-wide committees. 25%

Assists with the collection of annual graduate employment/continuing education data by calling graduates, entering data, and searching social media profiles to aid in the data collection associated with the First Destination report. 10%


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
A bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree preferred. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively-orally and in presentations with diverse groups. Excellent editing and writing skills. Must be highly organized and have demonstrated ability to manage time effectively. Knowledge of working with technology, which may include recruitment and/or career development tools such as LinkedIn, career assessments, and Handshake. This individual will be required to take the initiative and work independently with an elevated level of energy.
It is preferred, but not required, that candidates possess previous experience working one-on-one with individuals, assisting college students and others in their success, and basic understanding of the career development process. It is also preferred this candidate possesses previous experience advising college students on career development topics and working with a team of education-focused professionals. Willingness to collaborate, be flexible, and have a sense of humor are all attributes a candidate should possess. It is preferred that candidates have a strong interest in career development, eagerness to assist others, actively engage with students 1:1 and in large and small groups, and learn new skills is crucial to success in this role.
