Full-time, Permanent, Represented position.
Location: South Puget Sound Region - Enumclaw, WA (Location may be flexible within Region)
Relocation Compensation may be available and considered.

Positions with permanent duty stations in King County receive an additional 5% added to their monthly base salary. The salary listed on this announcement reflects the additional 5%.

We are the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and we are looking for a Region GIS Specialist with excellent communication/people skills and a strong background in GIS support, data input/maintenance and spatial analysis to be the South Puget Sound Region Cartographer.

Duties

Responsibilities:

  • Functions as the region expert on data input/maintenance, spatial analysis and compiles data for the State Lands program in South Puget Sound and Northwest Regions.
  • Performs GIS analysis.
  • Performs information technology specialist duties and GIS support.
  • Maintains tabular and spatial data within Land Resource Manager (LRM) database. Provides region wide support for LRM with regard to updates, oversight, technical assistance, troubleshooting, and dialogue with Division.
  • Designs custom (presentation quality) maps.
  • Assists with creating and editing Product Sales Maps for South Puget Sound Region.
  • Provides oversight and review and publicly distributed cartographic products.
  • Advise employees with scoping GIS information needs and understanding information sources.
  • Maintains the South Puget Sound Region SharePoint website.
  • Provides training, assistance and serves as the senior expert in GIS and technology systems.
  • Collaborates with the various Division ITD GIS staff.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree involving major study in geography, cartography, forestry or closely related field.
  • One or more years of experience analyzing, installing and/or maintaining computer software applications and hardware, or providing customer or technical support in information technology.
  • 1 year professional experience producing map products and associated analysis data for management decision-making.
  • 3 years of experience using ArcGIS or GIS Arc/INFO.

Working Conditions:

Desired Qualifications:
  • Five years’ experience in an area of natural resource science or cartography.
  • The ability to coach and lead other employees, especially those who are not subordinate, and the ability to collaborate with fellow employees to find solutions.
  • Two years’ experience working with the department’s specialized software such as LRM.
