What you will do?
As the Caseworker you will serve as the single point of contact through Foster Family licensing, Adoptive Family approval, training, matching, and support through case closure in the counties of Cerro Gordon and Wright, Iowa. This position also focuses on taking referrals from the Department of Human Services using a database to locate a foster family with the skills necessary to meet the needs of the child. Specific responsibilities include:
- Providing pre-service and/or in-service training as requested.
- Conducting pre-screening activities for potential foster and adoptive families.
- Meeting with families to assess the family environment and skills.
- Writing and submitting home study assessments of prospective and current foster & adoptive families, recommending licensure and/or adoption approval.
- Meeting contact requirements for foster families with or without child placements.
- Documenting family contacts as they occur.
- Supporting foster families to keep children stable for as long as placement is needed.
- Supporting permanency needs of the child/youth.
- Obtaining thorough referral information for children needing a family foster care match.
- Managing match referrals when assigned the lead, assure timely search and completion for a potential foster family and modify work strategies to meet time frames.
- Assessing strengths & limitations of placement options.
- Providing 24/7 On Call and Matching responsibilities as assigned.
- Collaborating with stakeholders for case management.
- Supporting pre-adoptive families through to adoption to assure stability.
What you need:
To qualify you must possess a Bachelor's Degree in social work or a human services related field plus two (2) years of full time paid experience in child welfare or a Master's Degree in Human Services. Prior experience in working with Foster and Adoptive families is a plus!
