Are you an experienced Casting Engineer or Design Engineer looking for an exciting opportunity with a growing company? Lawton Standard is looking for a Travel Casting Engineer to support all of our foundries throughout the US.

As the Casting Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and improvement of gating/risering/chilling systems for new and existing tooling to produce quality castings.

This job is a telecommunications / Work From home / remote position

This position requires frequent travel to our multiple sites.

What you need to have for this position:

  • You must have a minimum of 5 years experience casting/tooling engineering within the foundry industry, preferably Gray Inductile Iron and Steel.
  • A Bachelors or Associates degree in an Engineering Technology, Drafting, Industrial arts, etc.
  • Knowledge of design parameters, blueprint reading and someone who is comfortable spending 50% of their time on the manufacturing floor.

You will also:

  • Prepare layout and detail drawings and three-dimensional models.
  • Carry out filling and solidification simulations to verify designs prior to producing castings.
  • Work directly with other engineers, quality, pattern shop, and production personnel to analyze and correct problems, resolve tooling design issues, and drive continuous improvement.
  • The ideal candidate will be:
  • Developing and revising gating/risering and tooling layout while troubleshooting casting defects that are identified during the process.
  • Working closely on product quality, engineering and production overall to help develop methods of operation, unique equipment or recommend modifications to existing equipment to support improved effectiveness/efficiency.
  • Follow up reviews of actual costs provided by Manufacturing Process Engineer and foundry personnel
  • Carrying out additional duties such as, actively participate in product and continuous improvement team activities and provide teams with casting and tooling support Participate in developing accurate job cost estimates for tooling and castings.
  • Help create accurate Foundry Operations routings and bills of material; ensure that the purchasing staff have the information they need to procure necessary BOM items
  • Facilitate the new job start-up process and the quality / productivity improvement process by observing and advising as each sample/R&D/process
  • Check job moves through the Foundry Ops Assist operations associates in development of standard work for the shop floor
  • Provide concept layout of tool design and process planning for all new tools
  • Assist in resolving customer dimensional, machining and form/fit problems (tool/equipment related issues), whether caused by the company or by customer operations
  • Maintain awareness of improved and competitive technologies to enhance the company’s competitive position
  • Continuously seek out, identify, and communicate process changes that would improve productivity, quality, cost, health, safety and environmental performance


Physical Requirements:

  • Is frequently required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Is often required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Will frequently lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Close, distant, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception are used routinely.
  • The Casting Engineer is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, loud noises, heat in summer, and cold in winter.
  • Hardhat, safety glasses with brow and side-shields, safety shoes, hearing protection, respirator and gloves are worn as needed.

You will be required to travel.
