The Family Dollar Category Analytics Manager is responsible for working with Merchandising and Category Advisors to analyze and provide recommendations to improve category sales and profitability. This position will develop category insights and recommendations to optimize category assortment and promotions utilizing available tools.

This position will guide merchandising and category management related analytics including category, competitive, and shopper insights, third party data sources such as Nielsen, Numerator, IRI/NPD, 1010 and supplier insights. This role will coordinate, prioritize and manage analytics across a team of Advisors for line reviews, initiatives, and ad-hoc requests.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Support merchandising initiatives that are based upon shopper and competitive insight and opportunity gaps. Manage a ‘best in class’ analytics and vendor management team to best support merchandising initiatives for sustainable sales and profit growth. Influence key merchandising stakeholders to support initiatives to improve assortment, promotion, pricing and marketing decisions including:
Ability to translate data into actionable insights and easy to interpret, actionable reporting. Provide shopper and category analytic support and conduct ad hoc and standard analysis as needed.
Driving data integration and generation of standardized scorecards, dashboards, assessment templates, market basket data, etc.
Interpret and report on syndicated data (i.e. Nielsen, NPD) for market and consumer insights. Deliver competitive and customer insight that influences enterprise decisions that drive positive financial metrics:
Optimize the acquisition and processing of data by improving the utilization of tools such as 1010, 3 rd party data, and other data sources and automation of reporting. Monitor the development and integration of standardized templates and reports to be used to support the buying group to meet their changing business needs. Provide support analytics for category reviews, new items, and initiatives. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements:
Education: Four-year college degree or equivalent experience.
Experience: 2+ years of Category Management [preferred] or 3+ years of analytics effort
Job Related Skills: Prior experience and effectiveness in processing comprehensive consumer and category analytics. Ability to collaborate across functions and business divisions. Proven skills in business issue resolution and ability to contribute to a team environment. Ability to multi-task and set priorities across a broad range of projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability and pre-disposition to learn advanced query tools for category and customer level data-mining and analysis.
Computer Skills: High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and data query tools Very strong analytical and problem solving skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Proven ability to develop partnerships and collaborate across functions and across business divisions Advanced Excel skills Experience in performing database analysis to address business needs Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines Ability to work across vast amounts of data from different data sources Ability to work independently and adapt to changing work priorities
