Job description
The Catering Chef position is responsible for the preparation, production, and quality presentation of a variety of foods which will directly support ANMC/ANTHC catering and food service operations. This position is responsible for supervising staff.
**All new hires will be eligible to earn up to a $1,500.00 sign-on bonus. Payout structure for sign-on bonus is as follows: $375 after first 30-days, $375 after first quarter, $375 after second quarter and $375 after third quarter. FEHB Benefits offered for FT & PT positions plus a $12 meal card per shift. Flexible scheduling available.**
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assumes 100% responsibility for quality of products served.
- Knows and complies consistently with our standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies and procedures.
- Prepares a variety of proteins such as wild game, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food items for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers and a variety of other kitchen equipment.
- Knowledge of traditional foods.
- Ensures all catering activities and services are provided in a high quality, consistent, and cost-effective manner.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary work station.
- Follows proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes.
- Assists in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed.
- Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement.
- Meets with supervisors to discuss daily menus, issues, and problems.
- Supports an effective safety program.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Management Team.
- Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- The environment will be protected and sustained.Minimum RequirementsMust have a High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must have Municipality of Anchorage Food Handler’s Card or ServSafe contingent upon 30 days of hire.
- Must have three (3) years of Catering Chef experience in a commercial kitchen in a food service operation, restaurant, hotel or hospital.
- Must have knowledge and training in using a variety of food production equipment.
- Must be able to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner.
- A valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.
- Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.
- Must pass a fingerprinting background investigation that complies with The Crime Control Act, Child Care Worker Act and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
- Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.
- Proof of immunization for measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), Varicella (chicken pox), TB, and any other immunizations and screenings designated in the current ANTHC Employee Health Program for Infection Control in Hospital Personnel.
- Contract requires candidate to get a flu shot pre-hire and annually thereafter.
- Contractor may be required to maintain all employee health records on site.
- This contract requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last dose).
Background Requirement: Level One:

Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of traditional indigenous foods of Alaska.
- Some baking experience highly desired.

Description of environment: This is an industrial hospital kitchen located in a healthcare setting.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
