Job Title: Grapple Operator Department: Field

Position Type: Full Time Hours: 40+

Job Summary:

Grapple Operator will drive, maneuver, or control the Grapple to lift, load and organize rail, and rail materials, while in the field, as assigned.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Prior to operating equipment, conducts routine inspections to identify needed maintenance or repairs.
• Adheres to all safety rules, guidelines, and codes.
• Attends daily rail briefing and follows all FRA guide lines, subject to change at any time
• PPE must be always worn on railroad property, according to FRA, Federal Railroad Association
• Monitors gauges and other indicators to ensure safe operation.
• Move levers, push pedals, or turn valves to drive and maneuver equipment
• Coordinate machine actions with crew members using hand or audio signals
• Report malfunctioning equipment
• Performs or requests necessary repairs and adjustments to equipment.
• Clean and maintain equipment
• Maintains records of time worked and materials used.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Must have a Class A CDL
• Excellent hand-eye-foot coordination
• Familiarity with hand and power tools and standard equipment care
• Superior skill operating assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ability to travel regularly; out for 3 weeks, home for 1 week, and repeat

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.

At least two years related experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.
• Prolonged periods of sitting while operating equipment
• Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
• Able to bend, lift, push, and pull, as necessary

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
