BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
1. Ensures the safety and sterility of supplies/instruments and the safe use of chemicals and equipment.

2. Follows policies and procedures in regard to processing supplies/instruments for sterilization (gas & steam) and the storage of supplies and instruments.

3. Participates in unit based Quality Improvement program.

4. Knowledgeable of proper and safe use of equipment (sterilizer).

5. Works collaboratively with health care team members.

6. Utilizes basic problem solving skills to prevent/resolve problems.

7. Operates sterilizers in a safe and accurate manner.

8. Maintains accurate sterilization and test records.

9. Rotates and maintains integrity of sterile supplies.

10. Maintains proper inventory of supplies, orders supplies when necessary and issues supplies appropriately.

11. Provides support services which compliment the patient care delivery system.

12. Responsible for completing assignments with recognition of safety and environmental concerns.

13. Ensures that patient charges are recorded. Effectively utilizes patient charge stickers.

14. Promotes good public relations for the nursing department/hospital.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High School Education or equivalent.

LICENSE: NONE

CREDENTIALS: Certified Registered Central Service Technician preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Previous Central Service experience preferred.

SPECIAL:
STANDING: Majority of shift spent standing.

WALKING: Considerable amount of time spent walking.

LIFTING: Must use good body mechanics to independently lift or in certain situations, assist with lifting/

transferring supplies/instruments.

VISUAL: Must have visual ability to inspect environment, retrieve items and monitor sterilization process.

HEARING: Must be able to receive/comprehend verbal communication and telephone calls.

SPEAKING: Talking is essential in communicating with health care team members and addressing supply requests from area.
