General Summary:
The Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) uses ophthalmic techniques to perform preliminary work-ups for
patients of the Beaumont Eye Institute physicians. Coordinates patient appointments with BEI
clerical staff and provides clinical support for the Eye Clinic. Oversees smooth running of Clinic Services
and the Low Vision department.

Essential Duties:
- Obtains Medical/Ophthalmological history from each patient
- Performs ophthalmic and ocular measurements (including retinoscopy and refractometry)
- Assists physicians with minor surgical procedures, Medical Lasers and Refractive surgery
- Performs diagnostic procedures, visual fields, Ultrasounds, Topography, IOL master (lenstar), wavescans and color vision testing.
- Provides instruction to patient and family members
- Monitors exam rooms, equipment and supplies, order as needed Maintains Ophthalmic equipment
- Plans and coordinates maintenance in collaboration with Lead Tech and Medical staff
- Assist with Surgical Coordinating between physicians and surgical centers as well as Attending staff private
office.
Standard Qualifications:
- Education/ Training: High School Diploma
- Work Experience :6-18 months experience as COT preferred
- Certification, Licensure, Registration: JCAHPO Certification required
- Other Qualifications: Technical & Surgical Skills
- Certified refractive surgical LASIK assistant
- Surgical Boarding
