Work Health Solutions has been providing top tier medical care to its patients and employers since 2017. We provide various solutions for occupational health needs including mobile services, near-site clinics providing care to local employers, and on-site clinics at contracted employer sites. The On-Site division provides customized injury prevention programs to reduce workers compensations costs and improve employee health, safety, and productivity in the workplace.
The Injury Prevention Specialist (IPS) works with health and safety professionals at their assigned location to prevent industrial injuries by implementing proactive and early intervention strategies. They work with WHS clinical leadership and leadership of their assigned work site to improve overall health and wellness of the employee population. IPSs are typically Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs) with a background in musculoskeletal assessment and intervention in the industrial setting.
General Duties:
Symptom Intervention:
· Provide individual employee (EE) symptom interventions intended to reduce the escalation of symptoms of discomfort within the OSHA first aid level of care, which includes, but is not limited to: AROM, AAROM, PROM, PNF, Mulligan Technique, McKenzie Technique, Muscle Energy Technique, Trigger Point Release, Myokinestetic System, Graston Technique, Gua Sha, Tape, Non-Rigid Supports, Myofascial Release, Active Release Technique, ice, topical analgesics, posture and body mechanics education, and self-care education.
· Assessment and documentation of cases opened for each joint/issue/incident the ATC is evaluating.
· Ensure proper management of cases with a minimum of two visits, an initial evaluation and a follow that include a work site visit to assess for any work-related factors that may be impacting employee symptoms.
· If the EE does not show improvement within 2-3 weeks or 3-5 visits, the EE will be referred for additional care.
· On-call coverage of other IPS sites as assigned.
· Appropriate case designation of occupational vs non-occupational symptoms
· Prompt completion of clinical SOAP notes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Proactive Services:
Proactive services are activities or interactions that are not always related to a specific case, but provide value to the client and contribute to return on investment (ROI). These activities can be for an individual or group. Proactive service documentation should be completed within 24 hours of the encounter in the EMR. There are 5 categories of proactive service: Injury Prevention, Program Development & Promotion, Wellness, Work Comp, and Surveillance.
Injury Prevention, includes:
- Ergonomic evaluations – Interactions focused on education regarding body mechanics, posture, and workstation adjustments. May include assessments of workstation, task, or machine ergonomics.
- Dynamic Warm-up/Microbreak Coaching – Interactions where the IPS leads a dynamic warm-up, microbreak or coaches on adjustments
- Work Conditioning – IPS-led work conditioning program: a series of exercises designed to improve the individual’s general physical capacity to withstand usual work tasks
- New Hire Orientations – Introduce the IPS program, how and when to engage. Includes basic posture, body mechanics, and ergonomic education.
Program Development and Promotion:
- Floor Walks – Walking the floor of assigned facility(ies) and may include observing work processes, familiarization with the site, developing relationships with employees and supervisors, educating employees about IPS services while not in a planned group setting.
- Team Talk – A group interaction focusing on a specific topic such as lifting mechanics, fork truck safety, specific microbreaks for job tasks
- Client Meetings - Individual meeting or a group meeting with the client. Meetings could be for team planning an event, leadership meeting, safety team meeting, metrics sharing, supervisor consults, etc.
- Program Development – Time spent developing program materials and implementation plan.
Wellness:
- Wellness Screening: Provide basic evaluation of an individual’s condition such as blood pressure, temperature, blood sugar
- Wellness Consult: Individual counseling on general wellness or nutrition education, posture education, not specific to a task or workstation, including such topics as proper use of workout equipment, preventative strengthening exercises.
- Lunch & Learns – Topic specific seminars to provide general health/wellness education. Topics may include: lifting mechanics, choosing appropriate footwear, blood pressure awareness, importance of hydration, meditation and breathing practice, beginning an exercise program, etc.
Work Comp:
- Claims Management: Works with assigned health and safety leadership to administer and facilitate work comp claims, which may include:
- Assisting EEs with initial processing of work comp documents and claim filing with designated third-party administrator (TPA)
- Assist health and safety staff as point of contact for injured employees
- Assist in communications with TPA regarding notifications of changes in work status and accommodations and upcoming medical appointments
- Assist health and safety staff and EEs in communicating with WC primary treating provider (PTP) to obtain updated work statuses
- Communicate with EE supervisors as an extension of health and safety with work statuses, restrictions, accommodations
- Continue to monitor EE recovery process to facilitate return to work
- Document claims management in WHS or employer designated system.
Surveillance Testing:
- Assist assigned client site(s) in implementing surveillance programs under the direction of approved policies and procedures from WHS clinical leadership
- Programs may include: hearing conservation, respiratory protection, management of chemical, infectious, or other OSHA designated exposures.
Requirements
- BOC Certified Athletic Trainer, California License
- Strong operational and organizational skills with commitment to accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask.
- Able to identify/evaluate job demands and work processes (we will train as needed).
- Able to demonstrate awareness of diversity in social and cultural beliefs and health care perceptions.
- Proficient in MS Office/Teams
- Demonstrates excellence in interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $36.00 - $42.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
