A very exciting opportunity is now available for an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist to join the Columbia University Medical Center!
About the position:
The Certified Surgical Technologist's primary function is to perform a variety of clinical and clerical functions to assist the clinical staff in providing patient care. This includes assisting physicians during procedures and examinations, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
Please note this position is temporary with the possibility of becoming permanent.
A Certified Surgical Technologist certification is required.
The schedulecan vary, typically 7 am-4 pm,Thursday-Monday, and rotating holiday coverage.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under the immediate direction of the clinical nurse manager, the Certified Surgical Technologist will be responsible for assisting in the care and coordination of patients in the procedure room and related areas under the direct supervision of the clinical team (nurse and/or physician(s)).
- Prepare and organize the procedure room for the daily schedule, including assisting and anticipating the needs of the surgeon(s) for instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies according to the knowledge of procedural requirements and constant monitoring of progress
- Sets up procedure room, including sterile instrument table, and prepares supplies according to the type of operation.
- Ensure a safe environment exists and observe the patient and is prepared for emergencies.
- Coordinates and prepares the inventory and supply management of procedure room equipment, including; Prepare, stocking and clean procedure room and surrounding recovery room area; monitoring inventory, placing orders, receiving deliveries and stocking items, and ensuring all equipment/utensils/instruments are maintained, including the cleaning and sterilizing after use on a daily basis and logged as required, per policy.
- Create and maintain necessary standard operating procedures (SOP) for the procedure room, to comply with policy and regulations for accreditation.
- Collect and enter necessary data for reporting and regulatory compliance. Routinely audit procedure room records to ensure compliance with internal regulatory guidelines.
- Assist in providing support during outside of procedure room, including chaperone providers during patient appointments, as needed.
- Responsible for training staff in procedure room duties and assisting in the on-boarding of new staff
- Conform to applicable HIPAA, billing compliance, Quality Assurance and safety guidelines.
- All Related duties to successful complete job, and other duties as assigned.
- Certified Surgical Technologist certification is required.
