Preble Street’s Emergency Food Services help meet the nutritional needs of our community members through our Mobile Food Services, Food Pantry, and shelter-based soup kitchens. With the creation of the new Food Security Hub, Preble Street is adapting how it provides food services to effectively meet the food needs of people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity—and we’re seeking food services professionals to join us in this exciting and innovative venture.

The Chef is an integral member of the Food Security Hub team. The Chef is a hands-on manager, actively leading and working in the kitchen, planning and preparing meals, guiding kitchen staff, and working collaboratively with the team to develop and execute sustainable, efficient, and forward-thinking food services with a mission-driven focus. As a Chef in the Food Security Hub kitchen, your professional kitchen expertise will help further Preble Street’s mission every day.

Job Requirements:

• Significant experience in food service or related operations with three to five years management experience required, and relevant culinary training or education.
• Ability to plan, prepare and supervise preparation of high-quality meals with available ingredients for large groups in a commercial kitchen.
• Ability to maintain a clean and efficient kitchen operation to ensure that meals are safely and properly prepared, on time, and to guide, and support kitchen staff and volunteers in working safely and efficiently.
• Strong organizational and collaborative skills, and experience working, leading, and managing in a team setting, with a commitment to building and supporting a diverse and inclusive team.
• ServSafe certification (or the ability to become ServSafe certified).
• Positive regard for individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, and food insecurity; understanding of issues of homelessness, hunger, food insecurity, and social and economic justice.
