Golden Queen Mining Co., LLC (the “Company”) operates a gold and silver, open pit, heap leach operation on its Soledad Mountain property, located just outside the town of Mojave in Kern County in southern California. The Project uses conventional open pit mining methods and the cyanide heap leach and Merrill-Crowe processes to recover gold and silver from crushed, agglomerated ore.

The Company is seeking a Chief Metallurgist for its Soledad Mountain Project (the “Project”) in Mojave. The Chief Metallurgist will be responsible for overseeing the assay laboratory, leach pad, Merrill-Crowe plant and refinery operations, conducting and oversight of metallurgical test work and provide technical oversight of the crushing plant.

This position reports directly to the Manager – Plant Operations.

Major Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation and oversight of the assay laboratory, leach pad, Merrill-Crowe plant and refinery;
  • Assay laboratory supervisor, Merrill-Crowe supervisor and Metallurgical technician report directly to this position;
  • Provide direction and mentor direct reports;
  • Oversee and review of quality assurance and quality control to ensure reliable, consistent and reproducible results;
  • Prepare technical reports with interpretation of the data results from the laboratory, with appropriate recommendations and conclusions;
  • Become familiar with approvals and permits and regulations as these apply to the operations of the laboratory, leach pad, Merrill-Crowe plant and refinery and the treatment and disposal of hazardous substances;
  • Be responsible for the safe operation of the assay laboratory, leach pad, Merrill-Crowe plant and refinery with regular safety training of personnel and safety meetings to target a zero level of incidents;
  • Provide technical support to the crushing plant as required;
  • Work closely with the ore control group and site geologist to identify material characteristics, and develop blending strategies for material being hauled to the crushing plant;
  • Stay abreast of, and introduce the latest technical developments including new procedures in areas that may apply;
  • Assist in preparation of production targets and budgeting for the process department and
  • Participate in the preparation of monthly reports to management.
Requirements:
  • Experience and knowledge with operation and maintaining a fire and solution assay laboratory including a range of laboratory equipment;
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in heap leaching and gold recovery circuits;
  • Must have excellent computer skills;
  • Experienced in metallurgical procedures and quality controls;
  • Effective communication skills – both oral and written, as well as solid interpersonal and problem solving skills;
  • High work standards and a professional presence and
  • Metallurgical degree preferred or equivalent experience.
