EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

The Chief of Vertical Construction will lead a team of professional and administrative staff responsible for the budgeting, design, and construction of large scale vertical Public Works projects. Performs advanced professional and administrative work with managerial responsibilities through the practical application of engineering and/or architectural principles, assuring that activities meet high standards of service and are performed with a maximum effective use of resources, including the planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of project managers, consultants, contractors, and other staff members designated to large scale vertical city projects to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. Reports to department director or designee.Practices independent judgment in the application of the principles and practices of planning, directing, designing, and coordinating a variety of vertical projects citywide. Assists with the development of project scopes and cost estimates for various vertical projects. Provides direction, management and administration of design and construction projects through architects, engineers, contractors, and project managers; planning, assigning and reviewing the work of a professional staff to ensure success in the monitoring of the work of staff, architectural and engineering consultants and contractors engaged in the design and construction of a variety of complex city structures and related projects. Manages projects as assigned and performs project management duties as necessary. Administers and reviews outside consultant contracts for design and project development and in-house projects for Public Works in accordance with general engineering principles, the Florida Building Code, and Public Works standards as required.Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions; all safety rules which includes wearing and using all appropriate safety equipment. Represents the Department Director in legal and quasi-legal hearings as required. Serves as technical expert and advisor on matters involving assigned project(s). Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field. Active registration as a Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, or Certified General Contractors license in the State of Florida is preferred. Ten (10) years of technical and project management experience in the design and/or construction of large scale vertical public works projects and four (4) years of related supervisory experience. A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Valid Florida Driver’s License
