Position Summary
This person in this role will be primarily responsible for all facets of assigned Water Treatment Plant and subsequent systems, including but not limited to water quality sampling, facility operation and maintenance, interaction with town representatives and the public. This individual is required to have 5 years progressive experience supervising treatment plant operators, and a Massachusetts Grade VI Water Treatment License. Full status preferred, or the ability to complete full status application within 12 months required
Essential Functions/Position Responsibilities:
- Adhere to and promote all Company Safety Policies and the Company Code of Conduct.
- Works with Water system manager to schedule operation and maintenance and emergency work to fulfill requirements as set forth in the operations contract. Reviews and is familiar with all aspects of the contract including but not limited to budgets, bidding of purchases (chapter 30B), quantifiable items, emergency work, and special requirements.
- Works with water system manager in developing budgets, reviewing staffing needs, equipment needs, and other essential functions regarding the operation and maintenance of the treatment plant. Must work as a team to ensure all work performed follows company safety requirement, protocol, and safety 24/7.
- Operation and maintenance of a 6.0-MGD surface water filtration plant, with oversight of sampling/analysis of water as required by Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. Maintain compliance with customer and Local, State and Federal regulatory requirements and guidelines.
- Oversees and at times performs daily pump station inspection rounds; Drive to the pump station locations throughout the surrounding area to inspect the facility and records daily flows and pressures. Follows the proper SOP for each facility. Verifies readings to confirm proper pump station activity and records readings. Takes daily pH and chlorine residuals throughout town to monitor the finished water quality. Retrieves samples and analyzes for various chemical parameters.
- Utilizes the company's planning process.
- Tracks & manages inventory of all chemicals, maintenance tools and supplies, and other necessary treatment plant equipment.
- Daily watershed and pump station inspection throughout the surrounding area to inspect the facilities and records daily flows and pressures.
- Installs new facilities and equipment, repair/replace existing facilities and equipment. Performs system maintenance on facilities/equipment as required.
- Ensures, as the town's representative, all security measure are in place to protect the public water supply.
- Ability to read, analyze interpret and respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community, Ability to present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors. Plan interpretation and regulation comprehension is essential. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Requirements/Preferences
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED); and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Commonwealth of Massachusetts Grade VI full status Drinking Water Treatment license is required. Full stats preferred, or the ability to obtain full status within 12 months is required.
- Experience operating a Chloramines system is preferred
- Commonwealth of Massachusetts Grade III Drinking Water Distribution license is desirable but not required or the ability to obtain such license within 12 months from date of hire.
- Extremely good mathematical skills are required for this position. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Multiple years of progressing experience with SCADA systems, PLC control, and telemetry systems.
- Strong computer skills are required.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- This position is a minimum 40-hour position, Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., with on-call duties weeknights and weekends.
- Must possess a valid unrestricted Driver's License.

- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen (including negative drug screen for marijuana).
- Obtain and maintain a DOT medical card. (company provided).
- OSHA 10 Certification, or ability to obtain during pre-employment (company provided online training).
