Non-exempt; part-time; 30 hours per week; 9:00am-3:30 pm Monday – Friday; occasional evenings and weekends; grant funded; pro-rated benefits

This position is responsible for assisting with implementing parent education and child development services while assuring the care, safety and well-being of all children ages 6 weeks through 4 years old. This position supports the Child Development team to plan, coordinate and implement activities that build on and extend classroom learning with infants and toddlers. These services are provided to assist families in reaching their parenting and child development goals and to promote school readiness for their young children. Services provided are individualized to meet specific developmental and learning needs and circumstances that children and families face based on various parent and child assessments. Supervision is received from the Child Development Supervisor

TOTAL COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with parents to support and promote children’s safety, well-being, healthy growth/ development, and school readiness in a manner that reflects best practices in child development
  • Model positive and healthy interactions with children and parents at all times
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate learning activities for children between six weeks and 4 years of age based on intentional, formal observations and assessments of the individual child's strengths, interests and needs
  • Assist in the planning and facilitation of Parent and Child Together (PACT) activities that are developmentally and age-appropriate for children of diverse backgrounds
  • Develop and facilitate individual and small group parent-child /activities based on the children's developmental assessments and interests of the families
  • Provide informal individual mentoring and instruction to parents pertaining to early childhood development
  • Provide general classroom support, and targeted support for individual children, as needed
  • Coordinate Child Development and Parent Education orientations for new families, support families and monitor their progress throughout the orientation process; communicate with appropriate FP staff and provide status updates, as needed
  • Complete weekly observations of children and enter written observation/progress notes in the data management system
  • Assist with tracking the completion of developmental screenings and assessment, and other child development services
  • Prepare reports and other materials needed by teachers and managers to meet grant requirements.
  • Assist with administrative tasks that support the Child Development team
  • Learn and share instructional/program implementation techniques with other Family Partnership staff
  • Work collaboratively with all teams within Family Partnership to accomplish team and center-wide programs, goals, special projects/events, etc.
  • Participate in team meetings with other Family Partnership staff, as well as staff meetings and trainings
  • Assist with participant transportation by driving 8 and 15 passenger vans, as needed
  • Perform other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • High school graduation or the equivalent
  • Minimum age 21 years
  • Minimum 2 years of paid experience working with infants and toddlers (6 weeks – 4 years) in a licensed center-based or licensed home daycare or early childhood educational setting
  • Possession of a valid automobile operator's license
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS /ABILITES:
  • Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges
  • Ability to maintain pertinent and professional ethical standards at all times and make ethical decisions with full knowledge of Family Partnership and Frederick County policies/procedures
  • Accurate math and computer technology skills with the ability to effectively complete logs, reports and other departmental record keeping
  • Ability and willingness to complete initial and on-going training and renewals as required
  • Ability to work with sensitive, personal information and maintain appropriate confidentiality
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with persons of diverse educational, cultural and economic backgrounds; public officials and program administrators; co-workers; program participants (children and adults) and the general public, with particular sensitivity toward the concerns and priorities of Family Partnership families
  • Ability to work occasional varied hours and day(s) as needed to accommodate evening programs, meetings, community outreach events, out of town trainings, etc.
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including public speaking, facilitating groups and presenting training

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR:

  • Related Associate's degree
  • 90-hour Early Childhood Education certification
  • Child Development coursework
  • Bilingual fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish language skills with the ability and willingness to interpret/translate for the program, as needed
  • Experience working in “Maryland Family Network” or “Judy Center” funded programs
  • Experience using data management systems for early childhood assessments
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • While working in this position, the employee is required to frequently sit, walk, and lift up to 20 pounds; occasionally climb, stoop, lifting between 20 and 50 pounds, push up to 40 pounds, reaching and performing repetitive motions; and rarely crawling, pulling up to 40 pounds and drive
  • While working in this position, the employee is required to constantly work indoors and has potential exposure to infectious diseases; frequently works in a noisy environment; and occasionally works outdoors and is required to wear protective equipment

  • Available for varied working hours as needed to accommodate occasional evening programs, home visits, meetings, etc.

Position is not eligible to receive benefits with exception to the 457 Plan as listed below.
