Good Shepherd Shelter is a program of Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. (CCLA) which is a transitional shelter for women and children who are escaping domestic violence. The shelter provides shelter in individual apartment units at no cost, case management, trauma-informed therapy for mothers and children, an on-site elementary school, an adult learning center, food, and legal resources.

Good Shepherd Shelter is seeking a responsible and dependable individual to assist with providing care to infants and preschool age children who reside in a domestic violence shelter.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and secure environment for children. Perform safety checks.
  • Implement check-in/out procedures and follow all CCLA policies. Perform required administrative tasks.
  • Attend to all of the children’s needs.
  • Set up toys and equipment to be used and ensures proper storage when done.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with children, parents and staff. Communicate effectively.
  • Assist with follow-ups and progress of children as needed.
  • Anticipate problems and find appropriate solutions.
  • Enforce Covid-19 PPE compliance as required.
  • Sanitize all areas of play and all toys per Covid-19 protocols.
  • Communicate concerns to management for improvement or intervention.
  • Attend and participate in required training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Work collaboratively within a team-centered environment and provide additional support as directed by supervisor.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be a responsible, dependable individual with experience caring for infants and preschool age children. Additionally, the ability to interact with and care for children in an age appropriate manner is essential. Due to working with families who have experienced traumatic events, this individual must demonstrate sensitivity in working with children who may be experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges as a result. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required.   • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of college in child development preferred
  • Biilingual English-Spanish required
  • One to three years of related experience.

  • Must complete 40-hour Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault certification training.
  • Infant and Child First Aid and CPR Certification required. If candidate does not have certification, they must complete the training.
  • Individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office and the use of internet platforms.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.04 - $16.40 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

  • Child development: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Trauma Informed Care: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Crisis intervention: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Microsoft Office: 1 year (Preferred)

Language:

  • Spanish (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Infant and Child First Aid and CPR Certification (Preferred)
