The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) contracts with LSSI to provide in-home services to families who have been indicated for abuse or neglect. The Child Welfare Assistant provides support to the assigned case managers, who work with these families to resolve the presenting issues and to maintain the family, whenever safely possible, as an intact entity. Under the general supervision of the program director, supervisor, or designee; perform a variety of social work, group, and outreach activities to individuals and families.

Essential Functions:

• Provide client monitoring and linkage to services they need both within LSSI and other community agencies.
• Perform all tasks as required in the written service plan.
• Transport clients as needed.
• Communicate with supervisor, work group, and collateral agencies regarding children's and/or family's status. This includes communication with AOD partners.
• Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences present within the agency.

• High school or GED; AA Degree (2 years) preferred. No experience required.
• A valid driver's license, proof of automobile liability insurance, and access to transportation for home visits, meetings, and client transportation.
• Record of compliance with the law and clearance on the Illinois CANTS
• Excellent communication, organization, presentation and pc/computer skills (including proficiency with Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) along with other related software.
• Basics of child development and parenting or equivalent life experience.
• Capacity to understand, and empathize with, the cultural, psychological, and practical needs of the clients that the agency services.
