Job Overview:
The Civil Estimator will be responsible for delivering safe, cost-effective and quality estimates of complex and large utility scale solar projects. The Civil Estimator will be the single point of accountability for the completion of conceptual and final hard-bid estimates for self-perform construction work.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Estimate projects in accordance with Primoris Policies and Procedures.
- Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, drawings, specifications, and related.
- Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, drawings, specifications, and related.
- Prepares estimating takeoffs from the drawings and specifications working with Engineering and CAD designers.
- Analyzes regional labor rates and per diems to be used in the estimate.
- Obtains quotations from vendors and subcontractors for materials and performance of tasks not being self-performed.
- Ability to travel to project sites to understand construction sequence, means and methods, site conditions and perform time-studies.
- Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve.
- Presents prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive.
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications.
- Able to work both independently and as a team, accepting assignments from Senior Estimators.
- Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
- Effective change control and risk management processes.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must be local to the Denver area or willing to relocate to Denver.
- Prefer BS degree in a Business or Engineering disciplined.
- Civil Estimating experience required.
- Preference given for experience in Solar, Renewable Energy, or Power Generation.
- Detailed knowledge of estimating fundamentals.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications with MS office application proficiency.
- Working knowledge of estimated software programs.
- Demonstrated skills in written communications; ability to compose basic as well as complex technical documents, formal letters, invoices.
- Demonstrated skills in oral communications; ability to make presentations to large, diverse groups.
- Proven success in developing and maintaining internal and external relationships while effectively navigating organizational barriers.
- Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills.
- Working knowledge of project accounting practices and financial systems.
- General understanding of Fixed Price, Time & Materials, Cost Plus and Unit contract pricing mechanisms.
- Working knowledge of the techniques needed to lead and influence others in a matrix organization.
