Metro Ready Mix, LC., a part of Metro Pavers, Inc. a local, family owned and operated paving company that has been in business since 1966. We are proud to offer a Earn While You Learn Class B Driver Opportunity. We are looking for self-motivated, dependable, and honest individuals who are interested in a career as a driver.
Metro will pay the tuition for the Class B course at Kirkwood Community College. * No experience needed. You must be at lease 18 years old to enter the program.
Rate of Pay is $19/Hr. while in the Kirkwood course.
$21/HR. while in the 30 day inhouse training
$24/HR. following successful completion of the inhouse training (Typically 30 days)
You will need to obtain your permit prior to the start of the program, and we will pair you with an experienced driver who will help you along the way.
You will start with driving a dump truck and move into driving a mixer. A brief description of the position of Dump Truck Driver is included below.
This position of Dump Truck Driver requires complete compliance with all DOT, OSHA and Metro Ready Mix, LC regulations and standard operating procedures. Primary job duties include, but are not limited to:

This position of Dump Truck Driver requires complete compliance with all DOT, OSHA and Metro Ready Mix, LC regulations and standard operating procedures. Primary job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Performs pre-trip safety inspection of truck in accordance with DOT regulations
- Loading and Unloading of Material at Quarry, Plant, or Job Site
- Ensure that the correct material is being loaded
- Ensure that the truck is not overloaded
- Ensure receipt of delivery ticket
- Communicates in a timely manner with the Dispatcher/Plant Manager, Project Manager and/or person in charge of the construction site as required.
- Drive truck in a safe manner as per DOT requirements and/or company SOPs
- Maneuvers dump truck throughout construction site and dispenses or picks up material as instructed
- Ensures upon close of day, truck is filled with fuel and performs post-trip safety check as per DOT regulations and company SOPs
- Completes any required paperwork and turns into dispatch office
- May drive mixer trucks, loaders, water trucks and/or trailers

Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Must have a valid Iowa DOT Certified Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B permit. (license will need have airbrakes)
- Must be able to pass a drug/alcohol screening, physical and background check
- Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with federal and state motor carrier regulations and company policies
- Able to work various and extended work hours during day, night, and/or weekend hours, at various locations. Work hours vary daily according to the customer demand
- Must have strong work ethics, reliable, honest, detail orientated, well organized and a self-starter
- Must adhere to all DOT regulations, OSHA regulations, and company policies at all times.
