Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and talented Classification Specialist will be responsible for performing a full range of technical and administrative human resources management services relating to classification.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Analyzing and classifying individual position descriptions to provide recommendations to senior executives.
- Gathering and studying data on job content; determines the responsibilities and extent of authority of the position in relation to other positions which may seem to overlap or have duplicative duties; determines correct classification by comparison to existing standards related to the work and prepares necessary full position evaluation statements.
- Applying and determining the correct classification standards to be used for classification purposes; comparing existing standards related to the work and prepares necessary full position evaluation statements.
- Analyzing and evaluating the appropriate classification and supplemental guidance to determine appropriate position title, occupational series, and grade recommendations for the Chief of a classification branch or unit and/or other senior executives within Human Capital Management.
- Conducts telephonic/skype/VTEL position reviews and prepares thorough and appropriate written evaluations.
- Reviews and recommends Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) determinations for each position description as either Exempt or Non-Exempt.
- Making recommendations to senior executives on reorganizations, expansions, consolidation of functions, the establishment of trainee level and intermediate positions, and changes in skill distribution.
Requirements:
- Thorough understanding of classification principles and concepts to interpret and adapt classification guides to secure sound decisions on positions for which the guides are only partially applicable and few precedents exist.
- Experience developing and evaluating position description responsibilities for all positions.
- Evaluating position management and organizational structures and providing assistance to supervisors and operating officials on ways to improve the structure, work distribution, and the use of employees' skills.
- Experience providing written and oral communication; develops and delivers briefings, project papers, status/staff reports, and correspondence to the Chief of Classification to foster an understanding and basis of findings and recommendations.
