Classroom LPN - Year Round
Shore Educational Collaborative, a multi-purpose agency serving people with disabilities has an immediate opening for a Classroom LPN/Paraprofessional in our school.
The person in this role will support students with developmental disabilities and complex medical needs in our post-secondary classroom.
Job Responsibilities:
Maintain all required medical documentation, including medication administration orders and forms, medical history and emergency contact information.- Administer medication during the school day.
- Provide ongoing nursing support to Shore Educational Collaborative as needed.
- Maintain appropriate student records and information relevant to medical interventions and/or treatments occurring during the school day. Records will include designated Shore students receiving highly specialized and ongoing medical treatments.
- Provide students with high-quality medical interventions and/or treatments over the course of the school day. Document and communicate all interventions and/or treatments that have occurred in school to parents, Lead Nurse, and/or teachers on a routine basis.
- Implement students’ Individualized Health Care Plans as appropriate. Participate in the revision and/or updating of the Health Care Plan on a routine basis.
- Support the implementation of a protocol for emergency situations.
- Utilize appropriate communication channels within the educational and medical team.
- Demonstrate an understanding that the lead teacher and family serve as the crux of communication and decision-making within the educational team.
- Assist in all instructional activities in the classroom including whole group, small group, individual and inclusionary sessions as delegated by the lead teacher. Consult with the lead teacher to identify goals and/or objectives of the activity as they relate to the (1) activity and (2) students’ Individualized Educational Plans (IEP). Adapt instruction as necessary to address individual strengths, weaknesses, and objectives.
- Demonstrate knowledge and sensitivity to student strengths and weaknesses in the areas of communication and motor skills. Adapt instructions and interactions as necessary (i.e. using a multi-modal approach). Learn augmentative communication devices and encourage student use of devices in all activities and in all interactions.
- Assist students with and/or perform transfers, diapering/toileting and feeding
- Continue to remain updated in the knowledge and practice of Health Service guidelines as outlined in The School Health Manual from the MA DPH.
- Attend IEP meetings as necessary
Other Responsibilities
- Participate in in-service training seminars for paraprofessionals and/or school nursing and request additional information as needed.
- Perform additional duties in the classroom and/or building as delegated by the Program Coordinator or Lead Nurse.
Requirements
- Current MA Nurse License .
- Related experience working with students with intensive special needs is preferred.
- Strong communication and organizational abilities.
This role is a member of the Paraprofessional Collective Bargaining Unit and will participate in the Massachusetts State Retirement System. This position also included a mandatory summer program of up to 30 days.
