Clean Up Worker - Fire Watch

Metcalf, GA | Temp to Perm | $15.55 / Hour

We are seeking high performing and motivated employees for a clean up and fire watch worker position at a Planer Mill. Position requires you to be attentive and help reduce the possibility of a fire.

Responsibilities
*
Reduce the possibility of a fire caused by Hot Work

*
Observe the Hot Work job as it is being performed

• Clean out the area within 30 feet of work being performed
• Remove bark/sawdust/saw chips/etc. from floor, under equipment, off of beams/purlins, etc.

Retrieve the water hose and extend it to the work area

*
If needed, use the water hose to wet down the work area

*
Call in Hot Work ticket numbers and the location to the Security Guard office for tracking

*

While Hot Work is being performed (“Spark Watch”):

• Observe where sparks are flying by looking at the job from all angles
• Use the water hose, when needed, to wet down areas where sparks are landing

*

After Hot Work is completed (“Fire Watch”):

• Inform the Millwright completing Hot Work of any areas of concern (i.e. sparks in upper I-beams, falling under equipment, etc.)
• Stay in the immediate area for one hour after work is completed and constantly monitor for smoke, etc. and use the hose to wet down area and calls for Maintenance assistance
• Return the hose to its storage location after discharging excess water from the hose
• Do a visual check of the area every 45 – 60 minutes for a total of 10 hours (if shift is over before all checks are completed, this task is handed off to the next Spark/Fire Watch person on duty)

Perform other duties around the facility, including emptying trash cans, picking up trash and other debris, and working with the mill Clean Up team

Experience and Education
*
High school diploma or GED

Requirements
*
Be able to walk to the area where work is being done and walk around the area as work is being done

*
Stand through the entirety of the shift

*
Occasionally walk up and down stairs to get to the work monitoring area

*
Bend at the waist to pick up a water hose or get view of work being done

*

Lift up to 40 pounds, including:

• Picking up and maneuvering a water-filled hose
• Removing boards and other debris during clean-up activities
• Lifting and maneuvering a debris-filled wheelbarrow

*
Learn to and safely drive a bobcat, if needed

*
Have basic reading and writing skills in order to complete parts of the Hot Work Permit used to track times area checks were completed

*
Work in a hot, cold, dusty, and dirty environment, dependent on outside atmospheric conditions

*
Work in mill floor conditions and outside walking areas that may contain standing water, wood chips/sawdust, gravel, rocks, etc.

Location: Metcalf, Georgia

Pay Rate: $15.55 / Hour

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 5:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m.
