Position Summary

Provides clerical assistance to support multiple departments in completion of job duties and in meeting the needs of their customers.


Position Accountabilities

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures to include the quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Provides a quality customer service experience to all customers. Observes the Customer Service House Rules.

Prepares pre-admission and admission forms. Prepares pre-registration and registration forms. Facilitates room transfers, prepares admitting and discharge reports. (Daily census)

Compiles and distributes information regarding patient’s personal, insurance, and financial status to include PCP referrals and pre-authorizations. Provides appropriate forms to billing and other departments.

Reviews hospital admissions to ensure accurate financial and biographical data and documentation have been obtained and properly entered into the computer and/or hospital records.

  • Performs clerical duties such as maintaining statistics, entering patient charges and answering telephone.
  • Explains the financial requirements to the patient or responsible party.
  • Makes payment arrangements and collects deposits or deductibles as required.
  • Receives payments from patients and issues receipts.
  • Channels all incoming calls; provides direct numbers as required. Connects inside callers with out of area lines when appropriate.
  • Responds to emergency calls following established protocols.

Updates supervisor concerning status of patient admissions and completes assigned tasks in a timely professional manner.

Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.

Maintains and cares for department equipment and supplies.

Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.

Ensures conformance to appropriate legal and regulatory requirements. Maintains continuity of policy adherence.

Continually monitors status of physician orders and certification for treatment assuring that they are current. Tracks treatment plans and orders. Maintains open communication with supervisors and co-workers. Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient and unit care data.

Minimum Education - High School or equivalent

Minimum Experience - On the job experience or equivalent in clerical area.

Preferred Experience - Healthcare admissions, collections, customer service training, insurance knowledge, medical

terminology.

Certification - NIMS: 100, 200
