Job description
- Assists in disciplinary action when appropriate for the purpose of maintaining a safe learning environment.
- Assists teachers and other staff as directed, (e.g. in charting students progress toward stated goals, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a written progress report is available to school staff and parents.
- Attends staff and school meetings for the purpose of acquiring up to date information for school management.
- Implements behavior plans when defined by the referring teacher, administrator and/or counselor for the purpose of developing students' basic social and interpersonal skills, and building self esteem.
- Monitors students during assigned periods for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.
- Participates with students and other staff in dynamic group process for the purpose of implementing behavior shaping goals.
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. attendance logs, activity reports, student's progress reports, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing necessary records/materials.
- Provides services for at-risk students (e.g. home visits, first aid, resource identification, etc.) for the purpose of providing families with support.
- Provides students on in-house suspension or detention, instruction and schoolwork for the purpose of providing ongoing support in the completion of work assignments.
- Provides verbal and/or written feedback of observations for the purpose of assisting certificated personnel and/or parents in identifying needs and evaluating students.
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. students, teachers, administrators, parents, etc.) for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or directing to other sources.
- Serves as a role model, discussing behavioral problems and tutors students in effective relationship and communication skills, for the purpose of ensuring acceptable levels of behavior for students in school and the community.
- Performs related duties consistent with the scope of the position.
CONDITIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent and at least one of the following:
(a) Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service paraeducator assessment as published by PESB; or
(b) Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or
(c) Have earned seventy-two quarter credits or forty-eight semester credits at the one hundred level or higher at an accredited college or university; or
(d) Have completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.
One (1) year of work experience with at-risk youth which included behavior shaping and reinforcing appropriate behavior, and skills training techniques in alcohol/drug intervention.
Valid State of Washington Driver's License
