JOB TITLE:

After School Counselor – Cleveland YMCA

JOB DETAILS:

The YMCA is seeking excited team members to join our After School Program at our Cleveland location. This is a rewarding opportunity to help children in your area learn and grow while building a rewarding career. The YMCA After School programs offer a positive environment where kids can have fun while they learn and grow, and we expect you to play and laugh along with them! We are looking for outstanding role models to come and help us create a great place for K – 5th graders to develop.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans within established guidelines
  • Supervises children, classroom, and all activities
  • Ensures the children's safety
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child
  • Maintain positive relationships and effective communication with parents/guardians
  • Engages parents as volunteers
  • Maintains program site and equipment
  • Maintains required program records. i.e sign in/sign out rosters
  • Monitors and engages in games and activities with children
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training
  • Handles emergencies as they happen
  • Develops positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications required
  • New Staff Orientation required upon hire
  • High school degree required ; one year of college preferred
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age/developmentally appropriate program activities
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, stoop and lift.
