Job description

Prescott Solutions was founded under the expectation that a niche boutique firm could deliver quality resources to larger firms that don’t specialize in the technology and environment staffing industry.

We currently have an excellent opportunity for a State to Federal Climate Initiative (SFCI) – SFCI Coordinator and/or Associate for our non-profit client, the NAACP Rocky Mountain State Conference. This is a part-time position and primarily remote. This role is involved in projects with their Environmental Justice Committee and being a part of a growing organization that meets our community’s climate crisis objectives and solves environmental equity challenges.

More about our client. The NAACP Rocky Mountain State Conference’s new “Clean Future” - Sustainable Environments Program seeks to support communities of color and low-wealth communities to direct infrastructure and land use investment dollars, drive decision-making processes and design policy solutions because those who are disproportionately impacted by environmental and climate inequity have the greatest negative impact of its effects. As part of our commitment to protecting the planet and helping our community achieve environmental goals, we are deepening and broadening its focus. We will work to identify federal spending priorities for the Black communities in Colorado, and help to ensure those priorities are funded through influencing federal spending coming down the pipeline and into Colorado.

Position Background

The Biden Administration’s climate agenda presents a historic opportunity to accelerate the equitable clean energy transformation, boosting the progress we are making in the states, and bending the U.S. carbon curve toward a zero-carbon by 2050 trajectory. However, whether you are looking at the climate investments authorized by Congress or the new regulations under consideration by the U.S. EPA, the key to success is through state and local decision makers.

NAACP Colorado’s strong network of state and local advocates has a critical role to play in implementation of the hundreds of billions of dollars of authorized programs into real, desperately needed communities. We will help clean energy transformation on the ground, while prioritizing programs that advance justice, and to build the support to sustain strong EPA regulations.

The recently-passed Inflation Reduction Act is going to be the largest climate spending package in American history. NAACP State Conference will work to promote these investments as they come into Colorado, to go towards environmental justice priorities and carbon reduction. We will drive Inflation Reduction Act climate investment priorities for Colorado, and promote those federal investments via community events, meetings with state government agencies that will be receiving and allocating federal dollars. NAACP is going to work on implementing these dollars in Colorado by doing advocacy, awareness, and driving policy! We have a history of communicating with local and state Leaders and agencies that will be responsible for disseminating these dollars to Colorado. Our members are Freedom Fighters and it is our fight to help protect all communities from the serious harms that the new climate crisis presents.

NAACP will work to identify federal spending priorities for the Black communities in Colorado, and help to ensure those priorities are funded through influencing federal spending coming down the pipeline and into Colorado

As the SCFI Coordinator, you will work closely with the State Conference President to implement decarbonization, electrification and energy efficiency programs, develop innovative energy codes, and help implement the Clean Future community standards program for the state. You will regularly interact with other NAACP members, environmental coalitions, community leaders and legislators on federal legislation and state project engagements. The key role that you will play in this position is influencing the $2 trillion in federal climate and environmental justice investments coming from the federal government into Colorado, with an emphasis on the Justice40 initiative and ensuring that 40% of the funds go towards Disproportionately Impacted Communities. You will do this with a coalition of climate and environmental justice organizations, and the work will often be collaborative. Responsibilities will include, at a minimum:

  • Attend weekly coalition meetings with other stakeholders that are engaging in the same work, as well as any other relevant meetings. Estimated time spent in meetings will be 2-4 hours per week.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key community and legislative stakeholders
  • Engage with policy making and advisory groups, as well as fellow coalition members in spearheading and executing projects
  • Work with the communications team to update program information on the website, social media and send emails about program updates to stakeholders;
  • Identifying federal climate investment priorities that RMNAACP wishes to engage in, then creating a campaign plan to engage in and influence those specific spending priorities
  • Present at internal and external lunch & learn type trainings, as well as relevant NAACP events
  • Collaborate with local NAACP branches on Climate and Environmental Justice work
