Lab Assistant - Contract/Travel

JOB SUMMARY :
The Laboratory Technician will perform any of the routine activities related to laboratory testing, under the direct and constant supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Scientists.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Participates in specimen testing according to established procedures working under the technical oversight of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

Establish positive patient identification on sample or in reporting systems before proceeding submitting samples for testing.

Assists in preparation and storage of reagents and culture media.

Assisting in the performance of quality control procedures.

Perform automated RNA and DNA extraction from various specimen types by following the laboratory SOP.

Perform certain complex lab procedures under general supervision including library prep for sequencing and PCR testing in accordance with the laboratory SOP.

Documents all activities as necessary including preventative maintenance logs, instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and quality control to ensure regulatory compliance.

Performs preventative maintenance (PM) on equipment, documents PM appropriately, makes minor repairs and immediately contacts appropriate personnel for problems requiring more complex repairs.

Pipettes samples and reagents using calibrated and approved automatic syringes and dispensers.

Records dates of receipt, in use, and expiration for all reagents, kits, controls, and standards used for assigned assays.

Demonstrate the ability to communicate & consult with the CLS regarding technical decisions concerning testing and problem solving, as necessary.

Request and pull samples pending tests by locating, sorting, and preparing samples for testing.

Cleans work area and surrounding laboratory after completion of workday.

Complying with applicable laws and regulations and company procedures and policies.

Communicates regularly and effectively with the Laboratory Manager and/or laboratory staff.

Complete other tasks as needed to support the objectives of the laboratory.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.

Associates degree or higher in biological or laboratory sciences, preferred.

1+ years previous experience in clinical laboratory or related work environment preferred.

Duration: 8,10,13 or 26 weeks

40 hours per week

Shift: 8,10,12 hours, days and nights available
