The community you’ll be caring for: AdventHealth Hospice Care

The role you’ll contribute: AdventHealth Coding Specialist provides coding and medical review services for Advent Health Hospice Care East and Central regions. The Coding Specialist is responsible for reviewing and analyzing documentation present in the medical record to assign diagnoses codes as described by the physician(s) of record. Ensures appropriate ICD-10CM coding and sequencing

The value you’ll bring to the team:

• Abstracts pertinent information from patient documentation/medical record and instructions provided by referring entities in order to assign accurate ICD-10 codes following appropriate coding guidelines
• Seeks additional information as needed from the agency/physician to ensure complete information
• Enters information into Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system(s)
• Communicates with agency/physician when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes
• Keeps abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements
• Follows the most recent ICD-10 coding guidelines and conventions.

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

• ICD-10 coding certification; must have one of the following recognized certifications:
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • Home Care Coding Specialist – Hospice (HCS-H);
  • Home Care Coding Specialist – Diagnosis (HCS-D)
  • Board Certified Home Health Coder (BCHH-C)
• At least 1 year of experience in ICD-10 diagnosis coding.
