Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) is currently seeking applications for a Collections Move Project Assistant (CMPA). This position will oversee work as assigned by the Project Manager focusing on departmental communication, process development, day-to-day operations, and staff training. They will be responsible for researching methodology, communicating with vendors, and operating within the project’s designated budget. The CMPA will take primary responsibility for process development and staff training by working with museum departments to develop workflows, training documents, and data trackers, while also acting as the primary liaison between temporary hires and their corresponding C/R departments. The CMPA will be required to attend meetings both on and offsite, and may be required to accompany MPM staff to construction sites and other non-traditional venues as required.
In this role, you will work to drive the mission of MPM by:
- Playing an important role in the behind-the-scenes administration of what will be a MASSIVE undertaking to relocate our collections
- Helping to keep the collections move project timeline on schedule through liaising and maintaining efficient communications
- Helping to ensure that we continue to handle the collections with integrity by creating and implementing the necessary workflows and processes
You will be successful in this role if you:
- Posses a Bachelors Degree in Museum Studies. Preferably with a focus in collections management.
- Have at least 1 year experience working with museum collections, including collections inventory, packing, and organizing, as well as experience working with a wide variety of collections material, including both natural history and cultural collections.
- Have demonstrated experience working with relational collections databases, preferably Axiel EMu, as well as experience developing processes, workflows, and data tracking systems from scratch is preferred.
- Thrive at not only developing highly detail oriented organizational systems and processes but feel you would be just as comfortable training others on the implementation.
- Have access to a personal vehicle for travel, preferred
- Can lift up to 50 lbs, unassisted
