The Commercial Business Manager will have commercial and business development responsibilities. These responsibilities include identifying growth opportunities, research and analysis of market, industry, economic trends, and project management to support business expansion opportunities. This position will manage many commercial projects (including system integrations, capturing system synergies, expansion projects, optimization projects, mergers/acquisitions, divestitures, etc.), negotiating commercial contracts (including lease storage contracts, pipeline throughput agreements, purchase and sale agreements) and maintaining internal and external working relationships. The Commercial Business Manager deals with day-to-day commercial issues, requests from customers, analyzes and monitors customer and facility activity and utilization, and leads project teams. This position will support the Crude Oil Business Development team and works closely with Operations, Scheduling, Engineering, Environmental, Finance, Legal and other support groups to ensure successful project implementation and that customer service expectations are met. The Commercial Business Manager provides revenue and capital forecasting information along with preparing project presentations for management on a regular basis. The Commercial Business Manager may specialize in a particular geography, product line or aspect of the business (GLO, Crude, Refined Products, Transmix, Additives).

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all commercial projects. Member of project team responsible to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Works with various departments within Magellan to resolve issues, mitigate risks, and ensure successful project completion.
  • Identifies business development, expansion, and optimization opportunities. Negotiates commercial contracts such as terminalling and throughput and deficiency agreements.
  • Manages customer contracts and maintains working relationships. Answers customer questions. Handles day to day commercial activities, analyzes and monitors customer and facility activity and utilization. Works closely with Operations, Scheduling, and other support groups to ensure customer needs are met.
  • Performs detailed financial and economic analysis to understand the risks and viability for potential business opportunities, expansion projects and acquisitions/divestitures.
  • Participates in acquisition/divestiture opportunities from start to finish, performing due diligence, developing the business strategy, preparing the bid, negotiating purchase and sale agreements, and integrating the acquisition into Magellan’s crude business.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and provides revenue and capital forecasting information.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in business, engineering or related field. Master’s degree in a related field preferred, but not required.
  • Prefer 5+ years industry or related experience, with a strong preference of 3+ years of economic analysis.

This position will be filled at a level commensurate with the candidate's education and experience.

The ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English with co-workers, supervisors, internal and external customers; the ability to work in stressful conditions; the ability to adapt and respond in changing circumstances; the ability to use a personal computer with the Windows® operating system to complete time sheets, send and receive email, and access information posted on the Company’s intranet; availability as needed to work on both a scheduled and call-out basis; and the ability to work at the assigned job site.

Experience

Required
  • 3 - 5 years: Prefer 5+ years industry or related experience, with a strong preference of 3+ years of economic analysis.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred
  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred, but not required

Education

Required
  • Bachelors or better in Engineering or related field
  • Bachelors or better in Business or related field
