About the Organization: The mission of Southeastern Michigan Health Association (SEMHA)is to help with partnerships and programs with public health forms. Southeastern Michigan Health Association (SEMHA) along with servicing, assists in the development, the implementation, and the data reporting for Michigan health programs. The association has provided a forum for public health concerns to promote the opportunity for dissemination of information, sharing of ideas, training, and education. In addition to, SEMHA provides services that support grant and program management, such as, human resources, accounting, research, planning and evaluation.
AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) is seeking new members age 18 or older to join us in combating poverty in America. In exchange for one year of service you will receive a living allowance, medical coverage (if qualified) in addition to professional experience volunteering with youth driven organizations. This opportunity is offered through the Michigan Community Service Commission.
Summary of Responsibilities:
· Partner with community development organizations.
· Interview with local leaders
· Organize collaborative initiatives for community-based organizations focused on
· addressing social determinants of health
· Partner with Health Care institutions and Municipalities.
· Build a survey to understand their alignment/involvement with CBO’s
· Implement survey across region
· Support development of and/or facilitate health equity committee
· Support other health partners in researching secondary data for community
· health needs assessment
Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively both oral and written; research, develop, present, and promote program to community, potential donors, and potential partners
- Strong Interest in Public Health and Health Equity
- Ability to effectively and efficiently support planning, development, and establishment of new programs
- Strong organizational and project management skills, detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
- Need to meet deadlines, follow instructions and accept direction on given assignments
· Living Stipend: VISTAs receive a bi-weekly living stipend of about $675.20, for a total stipend of $16,204.80 paid over one-year.
· Education Award: Upon successful completion of the entire term, members earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of about $6,895 that can be used towards eligible post-secondary education expenses, or a cash stipend of about $1,800.
· Non-Competitive Eligibility: AmeriCorps VISTA members earn federal non-competitive eligibility, giving members an edge in the federal hiring process.
