Job Description

Streetlives is looking for founding members of its data-gathering and content curation team – people who care deeply about improving the ability of people to find social services and building a better social service system for all New Yorkers.

Each successful candidate for this role will conduct data gathering and outreach, reaching out to social service providers and gathering information. Information collected includes services offered, descriptions, opening times, and eligibility information that enables people who are homeless and other users of social services to confidently connect with the services and support they need.

You will be proactive and thoughtful in curating high-quality information, with attention to detail and accuracy, to ensure community members have a reliable, accessible platform they can turn to for navigating the New York City social service system.

Streetlives will provide specific training on software and tools necessary to do this work.

As one of the first employees in a social tech startup, you will gain exposure to all aspects of the organization and work alongside Leadership and Research and Development, suggesting ways to improve the tools and organizational efficiency. You will also contribute to decision-making and participate in setting the organization’s strategy and direction by leveraging and trusting in lived experience.

This position is an opportunity for a purpose-driven individual to take a role in the early stages of a transformative organization pushing to change the paradigm of social service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Research available online resources: Google, social service provider websites, databases, etc.
  • Contact social service and community program providers directly (including in-person – following local pandemic safety protocols – or through phone calls/emails)
  • Create and develop working relationships with service provider staff
  • Work online to enter service provider information using Streetlives-provided software
  • Communicate effectively with your team and Leadership, helping to build team strengths and proactively resolve blockers
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of policies and procedures in data collection and maintenance
  • Help create training materials to support the use of the community information directory (optional, as needed)
  • Assist with occasional marketing-related activities
  • Follow procedures for tracking and recording progress
  • Minimally 1 fixed day of work a week (8 hours), plus 8-16 flexible hours

-----------------------------------

Who may be considered

  • Relevant lived experience is highly valued and considered a vital part of an applicant’s expertise
  • Ability to record information clearly and accurately
  • Clear communication skills – written and verbal
  • Experience using computers and knowledge of Google/Microsoft suite, Internet, email
  • Reliable, dependable, and punctual
  • Ability to follow processes and instructions and take the initiative where appropriate
  • Ability to work on own tasks but also work well in a team
  • Travel is required in NYC, depending on local pandemic restrictions (accommodations made for individuals with disabilities)
  • COVID vaccine required for in-person outreach to service providers
  • Access to reliable internet connection/Wi-Fi

Preferred

  • Experience in social service navigation
  • Prior participation in similar programs, e.g., experience with social work, volunteering teams, etc.
  • Experience using project management and collaboration tools (Asana, Trello, Miro, etc.)
  • Bilingual English and Spanish speaker
