Position: Compliance Specialist

Department: Compliance

Reports To: Compliance Manager


Primary Function:

The Compliance Specialist reports directly to the Compliance Manager. This position has the responsibility to implement and uphold procedure and policies that meet government standards for the company, conduct compliance audits, as well as conduct regulatory research and analysis.


Job Scope and Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and implement Policies & Procedures, and systems to provide administrative support to departments
  • Promote awareness and adoption of Policies & Procedures, actively educating our team members and partners through memos, presentations, and interactive resources
  • Enforce compliance with Policies & Procedures, and document instances of non-compliance the along with the remediation
  • Research and interpret state and federal regulations to ensure company policies remain compliant and advise management on necessary actions to ensure compliance
  • Present and/or communicate compliance initiatives, results, and analysis to multiple levels of Asembia management, employees and/or customers
  • Manage, respond to, and ensure resolution of compliance concerns such as security and privacy incidents, customer complaints, and quality assurance issues as needed
  • Lead or assist with on-going training, coaching, and/or quality improvement projects
  • Perform routine reviews and audits of information systems access and activity, confirming minimum necessary access, and enforce best practices in support of URAC, HiTrust, and HIPAA
  • Support Compliance Manager with reviewing and updating materials for URAC and HiTrust certification submissions
  • Participate in planning and meetings, and weigh in on security and HIPAA compliance issues
  • Provide feedback for internal/external client calibration sessions as needed
  • Ensure compliance with the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 and its implementing regulations, as amended (“HIPAA”)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, legal studies, health professions and/or related programs
  • 2+ years of compliance experience, with experience enforcing HIPAA Privacy & Security compliance strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of auditing processes, with experience in auditing highly sensitive data requiring confidentiality strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to communicate regulatory requirements concisely and effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, project management, analytical, and time management skills
  • Ability to create and maintain organized and clearly written professional documentation
  • Ability to read, understand, and analyze state and federal laws
  • Aptitude to learn new programs, along with demonstrated expertise using technology to streamline, organize and deliver program services
  • Ability to multitask and successfully operate in a fast paced, team environment
  • Self – starter who can work independently and as part of a team who displays flexibility and the ability to manage shifting priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to effectively assess and diffuse difficult situations and escalate issues to appropriate leadership
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite applications (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint)
