From offices and labs in a location with a long history for excellence in aircraft innovation and design, the highly skilled staff at the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) WERX relies on hundreds of years of combined experience in the design, production and testing of aircraft and components to develop and execute unique projects no other team could tackle. Paired with the fresh and open minds of engineering and technical students at Wichita State University and WSU Tech, the WERX team implements innovative and efficient methods for the rapid development of engineering and testing plans for new aircraft, modifications/overhaul and electrical components. NIAR WERX is regularly seeking engineering services on a contract basis.

Summary of Responsibilities:

This position supports customer program efforts as an independent contractor consulting as an Aircraft Certification Engineer .

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in the management of STCs for the FAA, EASA, and other certification authorities.
  • Coordinates interactions between NIAR WERX Engineering personnel and applicable regulatory authorities.
  • Maintains certification project correspondence between NIAR WERX and applicable regulatory authorities.
  • Participates in regular STC program updates and Type Board meetings with the applicable regulatory authorities.
  • Assist with development of Certification Plans, Issue Papers, Exemptions, and other documents required for Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) Program with the applicable regulatory authorities.
  • Support FAA conformity management including coordination with Designated Engineering Representatives (DER’s) and Designated Airworthiness Representatives (DAR’s) for issuance of required conformity documents.
  • Review and tracks certification requirements and documents for STC projects and assist with maintaining the type design file.
  • Maintain Certification Project Compliance Checklists

Requirements:

  • Engineering degree in the relevant disciplines related to flight, or equivalent combination of education and experience related to aircraft design and operation, test and evaluation, or aircraft modification/repair
  • Five (5) years of progressive developmental aircraft certification experience.
  • Experience with supporting the completion of STC or TC projects, supporting conformity activities, maintaining type design files, and interfacing with engineering to ensure that certification authority requirements are incorporated into the design and modification process
  • Travel up to 10% of the time is required
  • Professional and diplomatic demeanor Strong sense of accountability and integrity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Time management skills to support multiple concurrent projects
  • Proficient in use of standard Microsoft Office programs
