Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.

Planned Parenthood Global, the international division of PPFA seeks a multi-faceted and skilled writer and storyteller. Reporting to the Senior Director of Global Communications, the Content Writer will collaborate closely with the Senior Director and other members across the PP Global team to develop original content, stories, and written copy for various purposes and outlets, both internal and external. Planned Parenthood Global believes all women should have access to reproductive health care, no matter where they live. By partnering with local advocates, medical service providers, and youth leaders, and helping to build sustainable networks and organizations, we find innovative ways to deliver critical services and fight for more inclusive laws and policies.
The position may be based in New York City or Washington, DC but remote candidates within the US will also be strongly considered.

Purpose:
The Content Writer develops original content, stories, and written copy for various purposes and outlets, both internal and external - ensuring PP Global's tone of voice, key messages, gender inclusivity, race equity and creative ideas are resonant, on-brand, and communicated clearly to our diverse audience targets. The ideal content writer will live and breathe ideas - relishing the brainstorming process - and be responsible for collaborating with PP Global colleagues on stories, messages, brand positioning, and supportive copy for PP's global work.

Delivery:
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Global Communications to seek out and develop stories from across all PP Global regions (Africa, Latin America, and the US) relevant to Planned Parenthood's global work.
  • Serve as the in-house global storyteller for a range of platforms and outlets such as talking points, topic advisories, position statements, website content, op-eds, biogs, newsletters, guest posts, thought leadership ghostwriting, speechwriting, etc. that showcases PP Global's work, our partners, and the people we serve.
  • Play an active role in brainstorming written content for owned, earned, and purchased channels, across a range of subjects relevant to PP Global and PPFA.
  • Create concise copy that resonates with diverse audiences, using a honed racial and social justice lens to create inclusive, non-stigmatizing, and culturally relevant concepts.
  • Research industry-related topics and identify gaps in our content.
  • Regularly monitor content written by others for brand tone and brand consistency.
  • Liaise with appropriate PP Global and PPFA teams for reviews, approvals, and edits - shepherding the process through the various stages.
  • Assists in the submission of PP Global content to various publications and outlets owned/managed by PPFA, affiliate, PP Global in-region partners, SRH sector allies and coalitions - for increased PP Global visibility and participation.
  • Serves as a first point of review for social media content drafts for @ppglobal
(Twitter & lnstagram).

Engagement:
In addition to working with the Senior Director of Global Communications, this position coordinates closely with the in-region communications leads and regional program colleagues in seeking out stories. The Content Writer will also need to build and nurture strong relationships with colleagues and leaders across the organization.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
  • 5 years experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a creative and/ or journalistic writing role preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, writing, communications or related field
  • A portfolio of writing for internal and external outlets, audiences, platforms, and topics
  • Experience working in a newsroom, media outlet, internal communications department, or agency with experience collaborating with teams
  • Experience in non-profit or progressive spaces a plus
  • Global perspective and understanding, especially Africa and Latin America, is
helpful
  • Curiosity to find stories with minimal information, have an instinct for news and stories of interest for wide audiences
  • Willingness to learn and motivated to ask the right questions on complex advocacy and policy landscapes, where an understanding of the topics will elevate writing and storytelling
  • Ownership and accountability. The successful candidate must own the quality of the end product and ensure deliverables are made on-time
  • Demonstrates a collaborative, diplomatic work style; able to ideate among diverse communities and individuals

TRAVEL: 5%

The starting salary range for this position is $71,000 - $80,000 .
