Position Summary:
Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law seeks an outstanding lawyer-educator to direct and teach its Clinic for Asylum, Refugee & Emigrant Services (CARES) . The CARES Clinic represents individuals in immigration proceedings and advocates on issues impacting immigrant communities. The Director will be a full-time continuing non-tenure track (governed by ABA Standard 405©) member of the faculty, potentially eligible to transfer to the unitary tenure track after two years of service. We anticipate a start date of July 1, 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of administration of the CARES Clinic, including but not limited to conducting outreach to clients, selecting cases, reporting to funding sources, and maintaining files.
- Along with the CARES Clinical Fellow, co-teach the clinic seminar, including classes focused on lawyering skills, professional development, and ethical practice, employing clinical teaching methods.
- Supervise all aspects of student practice employing clinical teaching pedagogy and serve as the supervising attorney of record in Clinic cases.
- Supervise the Clinical Fellow in the CARES clinic, whose duties will include teaching, representing clinic clients and organizing an annual symposium on immigrant justice.
Minimum Qualifications:
- JD required.
- An understanding of, and commitment to, clinical teaching methodology is required.
- Relevant legal practice experience, including experience litigating asylum matters, is required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
- Excellent clinical teaching ability, including an ability to work both collaboratively and independently and a demonstrated interest in and aptitude for student supervision and teaching, is required.
- Expertise in relevant substantive areas of law is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior clinical teaching experience is preferred.
- 5 years of legal experience is preferred.
- Pennsylvania bar membership or an ability to waive into the Pennsylvania bar is preferred.
