Job description
Purpose:
Design, troubleshoot and improve electrical and electronic control systems for new and existing equipment and provide technical support for plant production operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop, build and maintain electronic and electrical circuitry for electronic and electrical/electro-mechanical control devices from blueprints, schematics, logic diagrams or engineering instructions, including the ability to program and use programmable controllers.
- Test and maintain electronic and electro-mechanical systems, specialized test apparatus and custom production equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic on systems. Identify faults and locate errors in electronic/electric equipment, fixtures, robot programs, welding and laser equipment and hydraulic and pneumatic controls. Also completes preventive maintenance at specified intervals.
- Develop and document equipment circuitry, weld specifications and PLC and robotic programs.
- Under guidance of a controls engineer and/or supervisor, determine, develop and maintain proper sequence of operations on robotics, laser and automatic/semi-automatic equipment. Provide or assist in set up, parameter development, welding equipment alignment and performance of associated equipment.
- Interpret wiring diagrams and blueprints, including electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic circuits. Must be competent with relay logic, PLC programming, robotics programming and CNC programming.
- Assist controls engineer in a variety of projects, while maintaining shop floor activities.
- Identify, analyze, prioritize and solve complex issues and problems. Determine root cause of equipment issues and develop and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure all technicians are trained in all equipment applications. Assist in the development of necessary training programs and facilitate as required.
- Develop and provide preventive maintenance tasks, schedules and documentation. Recommend the necessary spare parts needed to ensure adequate up time on all equipment.
- Maintain 5S standards in assigned area.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Able to cover a machine call as needed or to fill in for automation tech vacations
Required Education
: Associates degree in electronics, electronics technology, automation technology or equivalent work experience
Required Work Experience
:
- 5 years of electrical maintenance or controls experience
- 3 years of manufacturing experience
Required Technical Skills:
- Practical and basic machine tool theory
- Ability to work from schematics and rough sketches
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel and Project
- Experience in computer networking, welding process automation, PLC/robotic programming
- Demonstrated capability in the design, maintenance and troubleshooting of complex manufacturing equipment and controls
- Proficient with Siemens and Allen Bradley controls and ABB Robotics.
