Job Summary:

The Cook is responsible for all food preparation so that food meets and/or exceeds quality, quantity, and service schedule requirements and hospitality service standards for the senior living community. The Cook is responsible for effectively managing all food production in the absence of the Lead Cook or Food Services Director.

Essential Duties:

  • Prepare, coordinate, and assist in managing the meal service, sanitation of food service areas, accurate record keeping, receiving, rotating, and product inventory.
  • · Adheres to posted menus; coordinates and prepares food items in a timely fashion
  • · Adheres to production sheets and instructions
  • · Prepares special dietary needs as requested
  • · Prepares texture modified food as requested
  • · Tastes and prepares food to determine quality or necessary adjustment
  • · Organizes work to meet production and service requirements
  • · Follows all local, state, and federal guidelines for handling food
  • · Maintains cleanliness, hygiene, and health standards
  • · Record and maintain measures for service standards including production quantities, evaluation sheets, and menu/production sheets
  • · Record and maintain food safety records including equipment, refrigerator, and freezer temperatures
  • · Record and maintain food safety temperature records including cooking, holding, and cooling temperatures
  • · Performs cleaning and sanitation duties
  • · Ensures all cooking equipment is safe and in working order
  • · Maintains all work areas in a healthful and safe condition

Experience and Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed throughout this job description are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

  • High school diploma and/or GED
  • One year experience as a cook in a senior living community
  • Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication
  • Competent in organization and time management
  • Demonstrates good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
